I like these guys a lot
Folks at bimmerpost lost their shit over that review. All the typical call outs of them being influencers with opinions not worth listening to. Thomas himself even chimed in on one of the threads to explain where they were coming from. Felt like a pretty honest take to me. Haven't seen any others that didn't reek of BMW marketing besides SmokingTire.

No bigger BMW fanboi than I and I understand the review and where they are coming from. Love my supra on the track. I think for a weekend car I will go Porsche next if I ever get tired of my old M3 weekend toy.

Th copium is real over there.
That 4th gear lag is atrocious and borderline unacceptable for an M car. That was Subaru STI 2004 level for lag
The fact that this thing is nearly 3900 lbs disqualified if from my list of cars I'd pay for
The mustang GT and Camaro SS are both lighter than the M2
That is a sentence I'd thought would never be written

--As a quick aside, as a long time N55 owner, down-low grunt isn't a panacea either.

You are gonna need to manage RPMs either way, you have a sweet spot either way. In a low grunt engine like the N55, you'll need to precisely shift before the engine falls off a cliff at roughly 5000 RPM.

Either way, there's going to be a sweet spot, and a dead range. So outside of specific use cases, the effort required isn't that different. So I don't see one as being easier than the other*.

*ok, sure, low end grunt is good for city driving. Granted. And before Launch Control existed, low-end was easier for drag racing I guess. But LC exists now.

And that's my beef with TH, really. Less aware drivers will be misled by TH's presentation, and think there's some defect with the car. There is not. TH should not, IMO, have started talking about power curves unless they were willing to provide enough context to avoid confusion. I'm not claiming they were malicious, just sloppy.

P.S. And if TH wants to get into RPM management, and tach float, and flywheel designs, and all kinds of other car nerd stuff, I'd be totally there for it, and applaud them.--

As I said over on Bimmerpost, this thing is heinous and is the reason why I bought the Supra actually.

It looks good in no colors, interior is horrid, ID8 is cringe, the manuals in BMW's are pretty much afterthoughts these days, the S58 sounds horrible and the weight of the thing made my choice easy.

That being said, MT Supras are roasting clutches so it's not all good news.

The Supra is a BMW parts bin special just like the M2 actually is, but for the manual Supra they chose the wrong parts so it seems.

So much sauce in here, yikes.
It’s striking to me how many folks are considering if the car will look unique/get attention from OTHER people. I get it it…but it’s also odd. I don’t generally buy or build vehicles based on external factors like that. (Now, now.. don’t be offended - I understand the sentiment).

Personally I am stoked to see the M2 in person and may even trade out of the MT for it. But as these things go, that’s purely personal/subjective. I am having a very hard time feeling deeply connected to the MT - there are some items that need to be modded as the aftermarket grows, in my opinion. With regards to the weight, our favorite car out front is a heavy, loud, aged AMG. We also have zero time to track any of these, so our criteria are vastly different than many of you.

To each their own. And I suppose the OP knew this was coming when he posted a comparison thread on a specialty board - no bias in the auto community! ?

I've been debating for months to trade in the supra for the new M2 and I still can't decide. Supra looks way better in my eyes but the extra room and practicality in the M2 and the S58 just speak for themselves. There's also a part of me that is drooling over an M3 o_O

In person, M2 looks somewhat better compared to what you see online but its pretty YUGE next to the supra, and definitely needs to be lowered, factory ride height is hideous.

Here are some bad pics from my car and the new M2 with a fugly winter wheel/tire.

The squared-off looks, quad exhaust tips and pronounced bumper inlets make it look like a German WRX.

Get a test. The focus on looks is a bit overdone. There are plenty who do not like the looks of the Supra. Happens to all cars. Test the M2 and tell us what you think. My M2 is due is on schedule for production on or around 20 April. Red like this but red roof/bicolor(silver) wheels. Good luck if you test!

Yeah, I agree! It's not just the looks, I've asked my dealership for a test drive but I doubt it'll be anytime soon.

Here's also a pic with some of the M performance parts..It looks much better:

One of the very few times that a front license plate improves the appearance lol
