hi,
i've often seen your posts. questions for you!
do you plan on selling the supra?
what would be next?
how come you didn't grab a manual F80?
thanks!
Hola,

TBD on the Supra, not sure if I want to keep it but it's a better option for the money than pretty much anything else in this segment.

I have a few other cars that I'm working on currently, but if I were to sell the Supra, I'd probably jump to a 997.1 GT3.

I never jumped on an F80 because:

1. They sound terrible
2. The manual is awful
3. They're not reliable
4. It's basically a widebody 335i

I don't think they are disgustingly ugly like everyone else. Certainly kinda bland and scion-like, and not the classy iconic style of the F87, but I don't look at it and instantly think "ugly car"

I still think a fully optioned m240i is a better choice for anyone but track rats or manual only guys

I think this was a really good summary from Top Gear.

"Overall this is an improved vehicle. Quieter, roomier, more generously equipped and less wearying as a GT than the old M2. That’s a crowd-pleasing move from BMW, but the die-hards in the mosh pit don’t want an M4-lite. They want an M2. Now it’s bigger and more grown up just about everywhere, what the M2 lacks is a personality all its own, which the uncomplicated, uncompromising old M2 had in spadefuls.

If we were a current M2 owner, we'd be feeling pretty smug that our car looks prettier than the new M2, has a more intuitive (if less plush) dashboard, sounds fruiter, and goes with more poise, more purpose, more sense of being a barely contained ball of fury straining to escape from a working-class hero chassis. Perhaps that was where the era ended after all.

That said, if you’re looking purely at new car options, the M2 really is in a class of one. No other small sporting coupe is as practical, and in many ways the M2 now asks very serious questions of the M4 itself. There, we just saved you £18,000."

I don’t want to write off the new M2 before even driving it, but reviews seem to all highlight these things. If you want a bit cheaper and smaller (but not that much lighter) M4 the new M2 is a great option. That’s not me bashing the new M2, it’s just the character is missing. Where the last generation was heralded as the best M car BMW makes, this one just blends in.

I’m not one to say the styling is horrible, compared to the current M3/4 it’s great, but I struggle because the last generation was soooo much better looking.

Now I feel like the only upcoming vehicle that can sway me from a new manual supra is the Ford Mustang Dark Horse. But I worry it’ll suffer some of the same issues that this M2 and the new Z has. Hoping that it’s amazing so at least the decision is a little harder.

The only two vehicles within spitting distance price wise (new) that I would take over a manual Supra is the Lotus Emira V6 manual and the Porsche Cayman GTS manual. The issue is, both are a solid $30k+ more than the Supra.

I’d bet the G87 M2 gets AWD over the Supra getting any meaningful updates in its lifecycle. That’s not inconsequential. Depending on one’s goals, I think the M2 would present a better platform despite the price difference if one is ok with the looks.

I would also think that the current m2 has at least the ZF 8HP70 (if not greater) which is worth something.

Sir, you need to see an optometrist. The M2 Interior makes the Supra look like a child of the 1980s.
Lol. Though I must say I like the Supra interior honestly. It’s simple, no frills, comfortable. I think I’d love some parts of the M2 interior, but that crazy screen dash thing is definitely not one of them. It feels lazy.

My daily drive is i4 with same screen, when I first saw this screen I did not like it but now it is so damn convenient and you get used quickly and would not want to switch to anything else. AC functionality is the only downside though.

Look at my sig. I don't like iDrive.

If I could have optioned the Supra without any screen I would have.

Also the G87 throwing the M colors on the door panels is fucking rice.

And M Town or whatever it's called can die. The fad over the division is ruining/diluting it to the max.

M4 spec drive train including gearbox. Tuning reduced power. No mechanical differences in the platforms. Brakes, Differential etc>>Same.

Not everybody is going to prefer an increase in screens and less buttons. Beyond that though, I like the added bits of flair the M2 has over the Supra. I would welcome a few more interior options that aren’t just tied to some extremely limited special edition. Black is cool and all, but we have all done that likely multiple times and it’d be nice to have a second or third choice. I would love a racing green exterior with a medium brown interior.
