If this thing ever sees the light of day it will no doubt be where the Supra is currently priced

There was a post awhile back that said Toyota has two versions of this "MR2" concept. An EV as we have all seen and an ICE version that has not been shown to the public. I'm hoping the latter is the one that gets approved.

Toyota to release new sports car with over 500 horsepower!? The supercar-like design of the FT-Se could be released in 2027

https://bestcarweb.jp/news/scoop/976629

The Toyota FT-Se was exhibited at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show. Equipped with eAxles at the front and rear, and also adopting a performance version of a next-generation battery, it proposes a form of high-performance BEV sports car for the carbon-neutral era. What will it look like when it appears on the scene?

●Key points of this car
・The platform is the third generation one developed exclusively for BEVs
・Next-generation battery performance version (square type) is compactly installed under the floor
・AWD model equipped with eAxles on the front and rear. Total output is from 300kW (408ps)
・Scheduled to be released in 2027, following the Lexus LF-ZC to be released in 2026. Price is in the 10 million yen range

The FT-Se uses the third-generation platform exclusively for BEVs. It is an AWD model equipped with eAxles at the front and rear of the body, which is 4380mm long, 1895mm wide, and 1220mm high. The battery is expected to be the next-generation performance version (square type) of the battery that is also used in the Lexus LF-ZC.

The minimum output for the front and rear motors will be 300kW (408ps), with the high-output version expected to produce 370kW, which is equivalent to more than 500ps.

It definitely sounds like the Toyota GR folks are testing that new 2.0L engine in a transverse MR configuration in a mule chassis to work out the final kinks in it under extreme driving conditions in that layout before doing something similar with it in production in another, newer chassis.

I'm really curious about it sizewise if they're testing it on a Yaris

it's supposed to be much more compact than traditional I4 and also much shorter.

This is the 1.5 liters shown here, but it should be the same for the 2.0

Hopefully it doesn’t take Toyota as long. ?
Same, as it took around 6 years to develop the NSX. Perhaps Toyota has been in development longer as we already have a concept and a test mule.

This is the same concept EV Toyota has been showing for years. Previous to this article from Forbes other outlets speculated that it was a MR2 successor. I don’t expect it to see the light of day.

Agree, just like the FT-1 Concept. But it will probably be a a spin off of what has been presented.
