They’ll announce the targa within minutes of me signing the final purchase paperwork on my 2023.

Wow, compared to May of 2021 (when I also purchased the first one), sales fell off a cliff! No wonder it seems like allocations have dried up...because the actually have!
So sad! People are still waiting to get theirs. What’s the hold up?

Wow. I’m not sure what people like in sports cars these days. Maybe just the make vs capability? These figures cause me to consider getting a cheap A-B and storing mine for next decade. Or maybe we are the only folks who like the platform and think the MKV is cool ride. Back in the MKIV days it was rare to get a car that broke 350 hp. Now it’s common for SUVs or four door sedans to have that power. It doesn’t translate to speed necessarily. Just thinking it could have something to do with demand/wow factor. Anyone know the civic type R numbers?

The site referenced for the Supra doesn't look to have a report specifically for the Type R. Numbers might be higher than the Supra, but from what I understand this first model year will have very constrained inventory. The bulk of what they're making is going to Japan and their waiting list.

It's not a demand issue, it's a supply issue. They aren't making that many and the few that they are making are often sold before they get to the lot for big markups. The ones on the lots are often marked up as well.

By your logic Toyota purposely capped its production. Is that the point you’re trying to make? If so that’s good news for us who have one in the garage. However, from a business standpoint it wouldn’t make much sense. There are a few months with zero sales. That’s a demand issue. Certainly could be caused by the markups/interest rates but I’m not convinced. We would need to see the sales stats for comparable sports cars.

I’m flabbergasted dude! We’re obviously a rare breed. Heavy overweight cars with tons of mind numbing technology, & enough room to leave your house and never come back - are where the numbers lie ?

Dude, where have you been the past couple years? Allow me to update you. There was this thing called the COVID-19 pandemic. It was wild. Supply chains all around the world got royally fucked, used car prices went through the roof, and dealers had huge markups on the few new cars they had in stock. Toyota has been one of the slowest to recover in terms of supply. Even as supply has returned to normal for others, they have said they will never go back to pre-pandemic inventory levels. They are actually making huge profits by keeping inventory and incentives low and prices high.

Here is an example of the situation at one Toyota dealer lot:

Also, the months with zero sales are before the car was available or in the future.

Totally agree. A recent sales at my local dealer. No sports car in sight.

Me being lazy and putting all my hopes on 1 deposit at an MSRP only dealership has backfired on me with these low sales (assuming low production too) numbers. Looks like I'll be expanding my sports car search to other brands.
