Toyota GR-GT

Not only the hood’s air intakes, but also the large and exaggerated rear wing and the aerodynamic design around the rear bumper stand out. The taillights are simple, paired with a race-style diffuser, creating strong downforce and a track-focused look.

According to reports, this new car will be equipped with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, producing over 600ps and up to 800Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission developed by Aisin. These figures clearly target rivals in the European market such as AMG, M Division, Ferrari, and Porsche.

This car is positioned as the legitimate successor to the Toyota Supra and Lexus LFA. It is not just a concept car, but will be mass-produced and even come in a GT3 racing version. The production model is said to arrive around 2026, under the name GR-GT.

Because its branding position is still under discussion, it is not yet confirmed whether the car will be sold as a Toyota or Lexus. Although the test car currently carries Toyota badges, Lexus is reportedly still considering releasing a sibling model.

On the roughly 1.8-km course, the car showed stunning acceleration. Both the front and rear bumpers feature aerodynamic winglets, while the blacked-out diffuser further emphasizes the race-ready feel.

Currently, the GR division is co-developing the car with Lexus, while also considering the needs of the GT3 racing version. It is said that this new twin-turbo V8 engine is a completely fresh design, unrelated to any previous Lexus or Toyota engines. The transmission is being developed by Aisin, with consideration to potentially sell it to outside parties in the future.

In addition, development work for the GT3 racing version has already begun. Even before the public reveal, Toyota was testing GT3-spec prototypes, focusing on aerodynamics and durability trials.

This car is expected to attract particular attention in the European market. In this segment, the competition consists of Europe’s top sports car brands, and if Toyota can establish a strong reputation with the GR-GT, it could recreate the shock and prestige once brought by the LFA.

2027 V8 Supra with MT, I am all for it…no 2L 4 cylinders please

Before I found my 2025 Supra (photo below), I test drove a Corolla GR. I like smaller cars with smaller engines that like high rpm usage. I've owned 4 Toyota MR2's in my time, 2 of them became SCCA race cars (see photo). All that said, I don't care if they call it an MR2 or a Celica, as long as it's mid-engine, make 300+ hp, comes with a manual trans and 4 wheel drive! Oh, and the sooner it can come out, the better... I'm not getting any younger!

I had a Toyota 86 for a few years. It was a very nice car. But I want something a bit hotter to drive. This 2025 Supra has just wet my appetite for more power. Now I want that power in a mid-engine car... and not a Corvette.
