they should really just partner with like Mercedes or something on the MK6 just to piss people off all over again.

i'm no expert in that field.

But I always was under the impression that modular means more or less cylinders and maybe different stroke, but changing the bore, that's a completly different story
Why would the bore be a completely different story for a modular engine? It was done before by Toyota with the 1UZ and 3UZ:

1UZ-FE (4.0L):
Bore: 87.5 mm (3.44 in)
Stroke: 82.5 mm (3.25 in)
Block: Aluminum

3UZ-FE (4.3L):
Bore: 91 mm (3.6 in) (Increased from 1UZ)
Stroke: 82.5 mm (3.25 in) (Same as 1UZ)
Block: Aluminum

Wouldn't bother me....actually, the opposite. It would just raise the appreciation value of my MKIV Turbo even more.

1.5L I-3 hybrid, GR Starlet
Wait. There's a GR Starlet? 😂

Since it really isn't that much more of a stretch to do so they can easily join two I-3's together to make a new I-6.
Is the new GR GT engine two G20E 4-cylinder engines bolted together? Because if it isn't, Toyota isn't agreeing with your wild speculation.

Also they pretty blatantly advertised that they want equivalents of the 1JZ/2JZ-GTE and 3S-GTE back in their teaser computer screen ending of their anime series. The series exists primarily to hint their next moves for the GR product range.
Are you for real? Can you then explain why this show had zero hints to the LFA successor, the GR brand going standalone and the GR GT? You know.. actual things that have happened since this thread started.

The G20E x2 V8 in the halo car GR GT/GT3 may or may not be seen in another model depending on how exclusive they want that engine to be.
You literally just argued against your own amortization argument.. and then blew it off. You can't make this shit up. 😅

Sorry folks, but it's a cartoon. That's all it is. It's certainly not an esoteric signalling system Toyota created to help you predict the future. And unless you want to blow off well known facts, it doesn't seem to have helped predict jack shit in this thread's 39 pages.

Mild Hybrid Inline 6, anyone?
This would not surprise me if they offered it that way but at least as far as the next Supra is concerned the hybrid option will likely be covered by the G20E 2.0L turbo hybrid which would meet Toyota's mandate for every model (Supra and GR GT included) having, at minimum, a hybrid trim level available while still potentially allowing for a non-hybrid I-6 trim level. But I could also see the I-6 offered as a mild hybrid also if they can make it work with a manual transmission option.

Toyota is trying to be bold and smart here. They’re going to milk this G20E into every application possible. Its the right business move.

Yes. Both the G20E and G16E. And non high performance variations of each as well. R&D cost amortization on that level had to happen to allow for the fun high performance variants.

Can't recall where I read it, but they said the V8 will remain exclusive to the GT and GT3 both internally and externally.

from the Engineering Explained video, the V8 in the GR GT does not even have the same bore and stroke as the G20E, so the assumption that it's juste 2 G20E joined together might not be accurate...

same information in the MotorTrend article:

Not surprising that they want it that way. They went to a lot of trouble to make this halo racecar. Between wanting some exclusivity despite it being a higher volume production model than the original LFA and needing to balance out the engine's emissions output with the rest of their entire vehicle lineup they want it to remain an exclusive vehicle package that no other car in their lineup can match given what its MSRP and actual transaction prices will be.

Staff: Morizo-san, I hear you got a new car?
Morizo: Ehhh!
Staff: What kind of car is it?
Morizo: A mid-engined two-seater!
Staff: That one?
Morizo: Yeah, yeah, that one.
Staff: So, what are you planning to do with it?
Morizo: It’s fine as is, but…
Staff: Don’t you want to do something more with it?
Morizo: Something more… yeah.
Staff: I want to have it ready in time for the Tokyo Auto Salon, but…
Morizo: Will you make it?
Staff: Let’s exhibit it!
Morizo: Is that okay?
Staff: The rest is up to the car!
