Was this a good ppf install?

I hope that’s not from a razor blade. It catches my fingernail. I think it might be. I could fox it up it’s dr color chip I believe. Not worth a respray.

Also I asked him not to install the lip. I wanted to do it.

I recently got a full car ppf (Xpel ultimate) and ceramic (Xpel) done on my A91 Supra. I was wondering if this is a good install. Out the door, ended up paying 5k plus tax. If it’s not good please don’t barrage with comments saying it’s not. Please tell me why. It’s frustrating having a bunch of people saying an install sucks and not saying why when you’re 5k out the door. The shop is also an 8 hr drive so I really hesitate in taking it back because of issues. This shop has done 15 Supras and is located in Miami. Very good reviews and nice facility with leds and dust controller room. Not certified because installer is not native. He’s matted out g wagons and done 911’s. Below are the pictures.

How would I go about that. Talked to this guy a lot and don’t want to piss him off and I think he might refuse. Do I have any basis to receive a refund? Many say for what I paid this I what should have expected…

Best thing I can think of if I were you is be honest. You are not satisfied with the work and others believe it’s subpar. If he respects you and your business, then maybe some sort of partial refund or redo will be provided.

Not trying to talk down on anyone btw. I would personally be very upset, especially with such a special car and color…

I would have been pissed. The scratch/gouge would have pissed me off. I would have them remove that shit PPF job and get my money back.

PPF is never perfect, and our cars are one of the most difficult. However, that job is still butchered. Some of the stuff is ok, but the cuts into the paint, the tears along the cuts, etc are pretty bad. They should be refunding and paying to repair the damage done.

Sadly that's a really poor job. I have two good friends who making their living doing PPF and I alternate getting my cars done between them. I just got my Supra done about a month ago and have 0 visible seams anywhere and of course no damage to the car. The guy who did the Supra has done my R8s, 458, and an RSQ8 for me and said the Supra was one of the more difficult ones due to the body angles and the massive hood, that said it took him about 3 days to get it finished where he felt like it was up to standard which is no visible seams and complete coverage. Cost was $4800 including PDR on 2 small spots.

The biggest issues I see on yours are just all those visible seams. If you're 8 hours from Miami you're probably getting close to being the same distance from Miami as you are from me here in Birmingham. If you want I'd be happy to PM you my two shops details.

This is the reason why it's worth 'dealing with.' If it were me (and I know I'm not everyone), and it was just a bad job, I'd just cut my losses and have it redone. But it's in the paint. This needs to be dealt with.

This looks like a rush job to me. The edges on this section are ragged and lifted.

Like I’ve mentioned before. When you have work done and you get that sick feeling in the pit of your stomach then its a botched job.

Gonna be blunt here, the work looks about as nice as a plumbers azz. I also have full body ppf+ceramic, xpel. Install was of flawless quality and everything is still holding up perfectly one year later. Make them fix this or demand a refund, amateur work. Wouldn't have taken it home like this. One thing I learned about products like this, weather it's a Gucci bag for the wife or a louis wallet for me, always always check the seams, always check the stitch work. Artisan crafts where hand work is being done require extra attention to detail before receiving the product,Due to these sort of problems and imperfections.

Step 1: tell them you will dispute the charge on your credit card if the don’t redo it. Tell the owner to personally check their work. Someone mentioned this previously and it’s great advice. It assumes you paid on a cc.

If you are not happy with second time, send your original post on this thread to credit card company as proof along with whatever customer service guarantee they have. Get refunded.

Step 2: find out who PPFs the cars for the exotics (Ferrari, Lambo, McClaren) and take your car there. Their price may be higher but you are paying 90% for skill/experience/customer service and 10% for product. This is what I did. I found the smallest issue with mine (I am SUPER picky) and they redid the entire section. The PPF is awesome now. Our cars are harder to PPF than most exotics. Ask them how many Supras they’ve done too.

Also, if the price is really high and money is an issue, just get the front half of the car fully PPFed. This is what I did. Biggest bang for the PPF buck IMHO.

Thats pretty crappy, i paid 1800 for front half and the worst part of it, that im really not happy with but decided to live with it is a nastsy Frankenstein stitch overlap crap under the front nose. His excuse was i didnt want an cutting on the car so he had to overlap the small filler piece that butts up to the mest grill, to which i said you could have marked it and trimmed it on the bench before pulling off the backing. after seeing clear coats coming up i didnt want them to pull it and risk needing paintwork.
