What will I need to do to pass CA smog?

Hi everyone new to the forum. I bought my 2022 Supra almost a year ago with 20k miles and I’m really happy with the car. However, I made the mistake of not verifying what mods were done to it and the later implications. I decided recently to move back to California next year (currently live in Vegas and not liking living here and miss my life back in CA), and realized that I’m going to run into issues getting the car to pass smog and registered. I looked over the car and it has a AA catted downpipe which I know won’t pass a visual inspection, an MST intake, and a Magnaflow exhaust.

Other than buying a stock downpipe, will I also need to buy a stock air ox and exhaust system? I also need to verify if the ECU has been unlocked or not by the original owner. How painful is the process of reverting that to stock if it gets flagged? I may opt to just trade in for a brand new Supra if it’s less of a hassle.

The magnaflow exhaust doesn't need to be replaced since that has no effect on emissions with it being past the downpipe. Downpipe and intake likely need to be stock to pass, but someone else can chime in if I'm wrong.

You definitely need to get a stock intake. Whether the AA catted downpipe passes the sniffer and the inspector doesn't notice it's aftermarket is a gamble. I would suggest going back to stock on everything.

Thats good to know about the exhaust, that would be an expense that would absolutely prompt me to trade in for a new one. The stock downpipe I saw is $3k which is priceyyyy but if it's just that and the intake then better to keep the car. I really don't want to part with it, it's so good and I got a great deal when I bought it from the dealer (non toyota dealer and salespeople didn't know what the car was worth, they hit me up months later if they could buy it back lol).

Do you know if the intake is listed as one OEM part? I tried searching the OEM part online and not sure what I'll need. I'm pretty new to sports cars in general, mainly a sport bike guy.

The DP is hit or miss
If you have no pending codes and monitors are ready, if the tech isn't looking hard you may pass

hmm any idea on the cost of the dealer flash. I was under the assumption this whole time that I’m not assumed, I’ll have to find out how I can find out for sure

There's a breather hose that needs to be reconnected but it should be attached to the MST inlet already. There are really annoying one time use clamps for the intake you're gonna need to buy if you want to go completely stock but you're probably fine using the aftermarket worm gear one as well.

Def not $3k. It's $1600 MSRP but you can find them for $1400 new.

You could try some self fusing tape over the logo.

Yeah now a days they do, if you're not on the stock OEM flash that matches the CVN, CID on record with the BAR then you'll still pass the test but you may get a re-test notice at a state ref later on.

It's been happening to a lot of Evo and STI owners.

You need to be stock for anything before the catalytic converter such as intake, downpipe, charge pipe, manifold, etc. You will fail the visual inspection and they will not test you. The tech is supposed to be diligent with this as the BAR often sends undercover agents to audit Smog shops.

For a STAR test:
No CEL. You should get an OBD2 scanner and check the I/M readiness, if there are are flags you will not pass.

Make some friends in the car scene in the area, there's still a few friendly smog shops out there. Trust me, I know.
