Akio specifically told Tada that he was going to keep him employed as long as possible in order to season the junior engineers in addition to finishing the 86 and Supra of course.

This Evo interview is my favorite one so far. They asked the right questions. Namely these:

Also, this makes me very happy,

In these industries, it's very difficult for young engineers to be able to get their ideas and input across (Hell, Tada-San was making vans for a while), and for him to actively bring them on board is really fantastic in my opinion. I've been involved in the industry for a long time and I know how difficult it can be.

And then, they'll be snatched by the Lexus division to craf tthe next Lexus RC-F that will msot likely be 80k but being that extra trim Supra fans would want.

Sorry, little pessimistic, but doesn't this mean they will use the BMW B58? But completely rework it until it is no longer a BMW engine outside of the shape?

One last thing cause I edited this.

What if Tada purposefully wanted the car to be unveiled early so fans and pursits can complaina bout the lack of auto so toyota would listen or understand there has to be a manual? He originally said a manual wasn't a requirement, when the man knows full well what kind of response it would get.

Perhaps.

That's an interesting conspiracy. I like it!

I personally wouldn’t go as far as to say until it is no longer a BMW engine outside of the shape....but who knows. When I hear someone mention “calibration”, I think fine tuning and minor enhancements.

It would be cool to see a Version 1 & Version 2 of the B58 cylinder head. V1 would be for the MKV Supra with its own aggressive cnc port job, and V2 would be the subtle Z4 cnc port job. Both different in breathing characteristics and potential. We’ll probably get neither, and just a 3psi overboost option.

@above That seems about right.

Manual transmission would be awesome, but we have to look at the practicality and selling points of it. The Supra was meant as a GT-ish car, and many were sold with an automatic.
That said, I'm pretty sure there will be a manual transmission. It's a sports car, it's a Toyota, it's based off the 86 (of which almost all were manual), and it's a tuning special.
Albeit the $50k price tag.

Few engine recalibrations, aka: "we made it more reliable"
Yes, GR/Toyota, please "recalibrate" the high pressure fuel pump, low pressure fuel pump, and water pump. While you're at it, please make sure you also look at and "recalibrate" the ignition coils and injectors too.

In other words, please "recalibrate" out of the BMW engine planned obsolescence. That would be great!

Hi there, I don't think you understand what calibration means in oem/production cars.
Engine calibration (oem) = engine/ecu mapping (tuner).

My interpretation is that the hardware be exactly the same as BMW B58, but that the ecu/throttle mapping/stability control tuning, will be done to Toyota taste/specs. Which means the car will be different to drive, but have all the BMW reliability issues haha.

Also, the stripped out racecar interior clearly shows, I think, a 2 seater only.

^ The "recalibrate"s in that quote were probably meant to be read sarcastically, as indicated by the poster's use of scare quotes around the word.

In politics, ypu have to be careful in how you use your words. Tada is following the same example

Agreed, but my comment was in regards to halfmonkey's use of calibrate, not Tada's.
Ah, well I thought I read that. Can't give all your cards away to the public and rivals. you have to keep them in the dark, so they don't reveal a vehicle that is on par with yours when you are trying to beat them to begin with.
