Interesting cycle of cars. I don’t want to hijack the thread, but I've been kind of all over the map with sports cars as well. I fall into that category where I dreamed of owning the higher powered Japanese tuner cars back in the 90s and early 2000s, but when I finally got to the point where I could afford them, they had either all gone away or become over $100k. And virtually none of them had a manual. I'm not really interested in an 86 or a Yaris...those would have been higher on the list for me 20 years ago, but the Supra hits the right notes for me. I think there are a lot of JDM car fans from the 90s and 00s that are willing buyers today, so if what you predict comes true, and the plan of Toyota was to delay the manual Supra release for a few years, then I'm definitely getting in line.

I take it you have no regrets about selling the C7, GT350 or Camaro?
Zero regrets. The irony is I had a 21 C8 on order and my allocation was supposed to be in April then it was May of this year and then GM cut allocations and my dealer told my I would be their first allocation on a 2022 MY car and to expect delivery between Nov/Dec. At that point I some crazy offers on the Camaro and knew it was time to sell it and count the profit, but I didn't want to go from May until winter without a sports car. Bought a Supra after a test drive and the rest is history.

I kept the C8 deposit/allocation on the 22 anyway but after a month of owning the Supra got my deposit back and have not looked back. When I sat down and configured the C8 with the same or similar configuration (z51, 2LT, wheel upgrade, some carbon, etc) as the Supra is was nearly $80K vs $56K. Just didn't make sense.

I am having a lot of fun with mods on this car, there is so much potential. I do have a deposit on a Z06 but it's looking like 2025 if I am lucky to get the car and I am not sure I will even want it.

And like you and I owned many generations JDM legents, including many gens of RX-7's including several FD's, and a twin turbo 300zx. All of them modified. My very first car aftwer mowing lawns for 3 years as a teen was a used RX-7 :)

Nice! I started out with a 4 door Honda Civic, but like you, virtually every car I've owned has been modded, at least with wheels and suspension and some far more extensively. I have come to realize modding is part of the fun for me. I'm a sucker for a set of Volks on a lowered JDM car. The C7 makes all the sense in the world on paper--but I guess we just like what we like. I also could make a tidy little profit on mine if I were to sell it now, but like you, I don't want to go long without a sports car, so I'm just going to hold on to mine until we all know more about what 2023 has in store for the Supra. I'll spend 2022 lurking around this forum to keep an eye on the rumors.

As an aside, the C8 Z06 is an amazing machine. I'm not a big C8 fan, but that one looks like the business. You're right though... it'll be 2025 before one can be had unless you're willing to pay a stupid high markup.

Heard locally last week from Toyota

New GRs for 2022 are coming here, GR Corolla, GR86, 6 Speed manual GR Supra & GR "Sport" Hilux

I'm really hoping for Auto GR Corolla for my GF, if not it will be a GR86

Not interested in the Hilux, holding out for the "real" GR Hilux with the promised 3.3 TT V6 diesel from the new Land Cruiser

I hope they release a manual for the 4 cylinder only. That would be hilarious
Why would anybody want that?

This car deserves a proper 6spd. It's the only thing about the Supra that I wish was different. My cars for the past 12-15 years have all been manual. This is my first 'fun' car with an automatic and figured the paddles would suffice.

Needless to say, while the car is fun, not having a true clutch & gear shifter makes for a much more dull ride to me. I love being able to row my own gears.

I put the car in manual mode and shift sequential with the gear selector. Have you ever tried that?

I have, and its probably how I drive the car 75% of the time. It's definitely the way to go with this car.

But for us people who've grown up with manual cars, paddles will never be able to replace it.

Hmmm, so putting a manual in the 2.0 would be the easiest route and it would coincide with what the BMW insider has said about if it's not offered on the Z4, than it wouldn't be offered on the Supra. On the other hand, hardly anyone buys the 2.0. At least not in North America, so that would be an odd paring imo. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

A clearer screenshot from the video, because this is getting funny, lol.
I can't release any more info as I don't want my source's job to be at risk.

I would stop posting anything to be honest - people on the internet don't know how not to share and everything is public. :)
