This is the time to identify the good dealers and remember how they treated people in the heat of the market we’re in right now. When times are tough for dealers again, my business is going to the good ones.
@GoldenEye is with a good dealer near me. That’s who has my deposit right now. And it’s even got me thinking maybe I need to trade in the F150 for a Tundra.

I appreciate that, I treat people like they’re my friends and family members!

Toyota is getting quite a bit of backlash right now in general. Including issues with the new 86. Hopefully things will start to change once they realized how bad they messing up rn.

I considered a new Vette or Porsche. Both had insane markups = Huge turnoff in the buying experience! Which led me to looking at the Supra. I’m so glad I did and love the car!!!!

@GoldenEye While I would certainly agree that not all in your industry are scummy... the industry itself definitely is (which obviously translates to a "birds of a feather" scenario). Not blaming you guys for that... it was the dealership-lobby (and politicians on the take) that made it that way. There are good insurance and investment brokers too... but there's an absolute army of bad ones.

However, the bottom line is that until the de-facto monopoly of the "dealer network" is cracked, allowing true competition (and direct retail sales)... buyers will be faced with the daunting task of having to comb through at least 10 sleezebags in order to hopefully find just 1 of you.

In my case, it took multiple tries (at 3 different dealerships) just to find an MSRP deal back in 2020. Sure it was as easy as laughing, waving with one finger, and walking out the door each time... but an hour or more was lost in the process.

I really liked my Supra salesman. Just a chill guy, no funny business, laid out the price (which was $5k below MSRP), gave me good money for my trade (top bluebook, about $5k more than I was expecting), and while other dealerships weren’t doing any test drives at all, he just tossed me the keys and told me to get lost and then use Google maps to find my way back.

Unfortunately the financing guy tried to pull some shady moves which really soured the whole experience.

A friend of mine that works in the industry once told me about how many of his co-workers were ex cons. It's where you go if you want a decent income after prison. On that basis I have no qualms about manipulating and putting dealerships against each other, and generally being dishonest to get a better price. Car salesmen are professional liars and would steal every penny out of your pocket if it was legal.

I know it’s the “unpopular” opinion right now. But it’s called manufacturer SUGGESTED retail price… MSRP… No one says a single thing when they come in and get a car 5k under MSRP, but a dealer charge 5k over and they some how are dirt bag cheating slime balls… I just don’t get it. If you don‘t like the prices then go some where else. I won’t buy in Vegas because they don’t have the deals I can get in SoCal.

I guess I need to make a thread on how the local ice cream store and boba shop upped their prices. Damn thieves
