JB4 for noobs (beginners)

Burbles change because it’s load/torque based if I recall correctly.

since the JB4 tricks the car into seeing lower load/torque to increase boost, it can mess with it

I’ll look into the tables at some point today to double check

So I was remembering correctly.

The burble mapping uses these as inputs:

It's:
- RPM
- Speed
- Engine Load
- Coolant temp
- EGT Temp

The only time Engine load is reference is in the timing mapping. However, after 3,000 rpm all the load cells call for almost the same negative timing so I don't think much would change here with a JB4. Example:

Another noob question: I am having an issue saving my settings in v22 of the firmware. It doesn't matter if I load my map from a file or type all of the data in by hand. I hit the big green "save" button after doing either, it goes through the process of saving, the drops me out to the previous screen. When I go back into user settings, the default values are all in place. Map 6 is currently selected as the active map. Am I doing something wrong? I hadn't had this issue with previous versions of the firmware.

My firmware just lets you select vehicle. I sent my 1st log to Jessie and thinking, this has to be wrong. All the logs are in one file. Dadgum thing grouped them together. Hoping he can use that. This app isn’t intuitive to say the least. Hopefully someone can learn from all my mistakes ?

I don't like how my individual logs get clumped into one. Then I have to figure out which one I want to look at, etc. If I try to trim, I lose the rest.

an option to not group them but it’s required by BMS ? whatever that means. But maybe my junk wouldn’t look like this:

Do you do this to increase the octane level? I've never messed with e85 and I don't think we even have it here in Oz.

You can get E85 from United, they've been supplying it for as long as i can remember.

I’m only up to no. 8 on the 1st entry of this thread of how to tie your JB4 shoelaces. I’ll keep updating on how to add a custom map. Eventually ??

Noob question: I need to run on Map 6 that I modified. Do I need to keep the app on and “connected” to the JB4 to always run that map? Or will the JB4 continue/default to the last map ran so I don’t have to connect every time if I want to stay on that map?

No, data is written to JB4 box. You don't need to be connected to the app.

Probably not you @underdonk but found out I wasn't "connected" when I tried to do the savings in my editable Map 6. It didn't save my setting because my ignition wasn't in the "standby" position. Don't know what the hell that's called with a start/stop button. But I hit the start button again without the engine running (didn't want to wake the neighbors or family ?), connected to the JB4, changed the settings and then hit save. Viola!
In the Apple iOS version, the firmware is just selecting the correct engine (from what I can tell) ?‍
