So we had a bit of a spirited debate about JB4 in the ECU section and someone may have mentioned they thought my 2020 with JB4 would only run 12.5 - 12.8 And that it would be slow. So that had me curious…
I know the 2020 is down on power vs 21-23 cars but how much and what does that translate to in the real world. Well just happened to be test and tune at BMSP this evening so I said screw it and drove the almost 70 miles from my house to the track. I got there at 9:20 pm and got my first run at 9:52 and my 2nd run at 10:46. So at least a little cool down but the car still showed it was running at normal operating temp.
My car: 2020 Supra with 16k on it. Has Autowerke catted Downpipe, JB4 running Map 3. These are the only real power adding performance mods. It has the charge pipe and intake from injen but we all know that is 0 HP and just for looks and sound (which I‘m ok with cuz it does look and sound cool). My car also has 305’s back and 275’s front and the ADV1 Wheels are just slightly maybe 2-3lbs heavier than stock. So not bad but the big fat tires and new rims are a tick heavier than stock.
I didn’t do anything for track prep. Didn’t lower tire pressure or ice down the intake or any of that jazz. i wanted to know what the car would run in the exact same config I run on the street. I did use Launch Control, it worked flawlessly both passes. I don’t know if that helped me or hurt me didn’t have time to do some foot brake stuff only so thats what I could do.
Best pass 11.89 @ 115mph and followed that up with a super consistent 11.9 @ 115 with both slips looking super close to each other.
For reference there were 2 other supras there this evening.
1st one was a white 21 with JB4 and E85 running 12.09 best but MPH was like 120 which was pretty awesome.
2nd one was a blue 22 with MST intake and catless Downpipe NO Tune and he was also running about 12.07, 12.09 but at 115mph Same as me.
To kinda see how it compares to other Supra’s In FL weather here is TRC’s car which they have run at Brandenton as well with an ECU tune tune only on drag radials car went 12.2 with a best of 12.12 @ 113 in stock trim average was 12.6 @ 108.
So I feel good about the overall results. A lot of people hate on JB4 but at least on my car it made a monster difference, car ran strong and very consistent even on street tires after a long drive and no fancy spraying NOS into the radiators or icing the intake down to get the best pass. I don’t like doing that stuff simply because that just isn’t how I run it on the street. I’m sure with a little race gas in it it would do even better.
Hopefully some real world results we can all see especially since FL is muggy and usually pretty hot. Tonight was about 70*’s at the track, it was muggy but the track prep was solid and the car just hooked and booked on the 305 Michelin 4S’s.
