As long you have the Toyota serviced at a Toyota dealer each year, the factory warranty is extended another year (up to 10 years/100k miles).
I'm in the UK though.

Go get service done at a Toyota dealership to see how (not) competent they are at working on a BMW. Then decide if you want to buy an extended warranty.

I decided to get a plan just for peace of mind given the reputation of BMW parts. Opted for the 10 year /100K plan. My dealership would have wanted an arm and a leg for that but Jerry Johnson @ Midwest Toyota offers it at a pretty reasonable price. You can reach him @ [email protected]

Typically they are always a bad investment.

I had opted for it as I was inexperienced with B58 and whatnot. I'd not have gotten it today .

Anyhow upon selling, I got the dealer to refund the whole thing as it hadn't even kicked in..

Worth it or not is a very personal decision based on your individual situation and no answer fits for everyone. I didn’t get one but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a good decision for you personally. A lot of it depends on your finances.

Can you afford a major repair after out of warranty? If so then I’d say pass, if you can’t then a warranty is most likely a good idea.

I would totally agree if this was a pure Toyota product. But as someone who has had BMWs in the past, I can tell you the quality starts to go down fast after the first 4-5 years and 50K miles. And the repair costs start to climb... Hopefully I dont need to use it - but the $2K gives me some peace of mind for the next 10 years in case something does happen...

Got a letter in the mail today from the dealer “requesting a response” on getting an extended warranty. I made sure that letter was on time for a date with my shredder.

Bro’s laughing because you didn’t get the extended warranty.
Me on the left, Mike Speed on the right. We couldn’t believe I didn’t buy the warranty. ?

Dealer would shit their pants if you rolled up after it was finished asking about getting one.

I got Lisa's name on another Toyota forum. She sent me a chart and a credit card form. Also, she is very slow to respond. So my questions are:
--How does she confirm your mileage?
---What do all the codes stand for?
---Has anyone actually made a claim that went through her and was approved for payment?

Another option to consider, is mechanical breakdown insurance. Cost is nominal and much cheaper than extended warranty, but only offered through Geico. Caveat is (1) no mods, (2) doesn't cover anything already under factory warranty, and (3) need to get coverage before hitting 15k miles.
