Thanks for that explanation. I think this is all going to come down to how much I dislike the stock circumcised knob. I don't know what Toyota was thinking. ?We know that Toyota experimented with 100g, 150g, and 200g during development, settling on the 200g. Well, they were on the right track, and arguably should've gone a bit heavier, maybe a 300g in my opinion.
As for the 500g, it's absolutely fantastic! I had strong reservations once I held it myself, and wasn't fully sold on it the first week, but after using it almost everyday for the last 1,000 miles, I'm completely satisfied. Two friends got to drive the car with the stock knob first, and they both had the same reaction of "oh wow, this is how it should've come from the factory." It still feels every bit as precise in the gates, but with much reduced effort and a bit less "stickiness." Getting into reverse is also a piece of cake now, with a firm slap from the neutral position now easily overcoming the spring-wall. I couldn't see wanting to go heavier than 500g personally though, as I think it would start dulling down too much of the tactile feel. If (& when) I experiment with a different knob, it'll be solely to change the appearance and maybe shape, but I'm sticking with the 400-500g weight class. Hope this helps.
