We know that Toyota experimented with 100g, 150g, and 200g during development, settling on the 200g. Well, they were on the right track, and arguably should've gone a bit heavier, maybe a 300g in my opinion.

As for the 500g, it's absolutely fantastic! I had strong reservations once I held it myself, and wasn't fully sold on it the first week, but after using it almost everyday for the last 1,000 miles, I'm completely satisfied. Two friends got to drive the car with the stock knob first, and they both had the same reaction of "oh wow, this is how it should've come from the factory." It still feels every bit as precise in the gates, but with much reduced effort and a bit less "stickiness." Getting into reverse is also a piece of cake now, with a firm slap from the neutral position now easily overcoming the spring-wall. I couldn't see wanting to go heavier than 500g personally though, as I think it would start dulling down too much of the tactile feel. If (& when) I experiment with a different knob, it'll be solely to change the appearance and maybe shape, but I'm sticking with the 400-500g weight class. Hope this helps.
Thanks for that explanation. I think this is all going to come down to how much I dislike the stock circumcised knob. I don't know what Toyota was thinking. ?

For those of you that did this modification, how do you get the boot out? From your pictures, it looks like 2 tabs on each side but do you just pull the boot out of the console or do you have to use a trim removal tool? I’m having a hard time taking mine out for some reason. My other cars were easy.

Just pull. It easily pops right out.

To quote @UYCR "Don’t use the arm you carry your purse" Guess i'll have to follow that advice ???
So glad my advice can help folks out ?.

You can also just pull up on the boot to unlatch it first. That should help you expose the groove on the knob (under the leather) so that you can pry it open a bit and make it easier to remove. Not sure which direction it's pointing but at that point you can just rotate it to make it more accessible.

@FuzzyRev85 posted a neat pic that shows the groove.

The grove is facing forwards, towards the dash.

Awesome, thanks guys! Did you do anything with the threads once the material was cut to prevent them from coming out? Like hot glue or anything?
I didn't since it still has factory glue and isn't fraying.

Nope. Just left it with the dried up glue it had from the factory. Since I ended up using a zip tie to attach the boot to the adapter that pretty much kept everything held together. Just try to make a clean cut as best as you can.

I'm working on this for the Supra.

Working with the best of the best for BMW short shifters.

I should have some prelim answers in a few months time.
any updates on the short shifter?

Getting this thread back on track, the part number for the non-alcantara shift knob and boot is 33504-WAA02 - at least according to my local Toyota dealership. It's on backorder. I placed a backorder, we'll see how long it takes.
Finally received my replacement knob/boot yesterday. About a 45 second swap with no tools.

The part number I found was correct for the smooth-leather version (I wanted to get rid of the alcantara one from day one.)

Thank you for the PN.

I hate the Alcantara knob so much.

So terrible haha.
