I mean without modification the 2J put out like 220hp? The 2JZ GTE put out 320hp, I think.
There used to be this old joke, "what's a 600hp Supra, a 800hp Supra, and a 1000hp Supra have in common? Quarter mile times."

From the videos I've seen, a stock Mk5 will beat a well modified Mk4 in a drag race up until like 70-80. Hell, I was watching a Tavarish video where they featured their "$23k" Mk4, it dynoed like 550whp, yet he managed a meager 13.0 in the quarter. My worst run on the strip was faster than his best one.

The 2JZ is a legendary motor for good reason, but it's a motor for race cars, not street cars.

Hello, I wanted to hear everyone’s funny stories about what all the lover and haters have commented about your Supra.
All the “it’s a BMW” and what your response was.
I’ll go first, I had a guy at Autozone come out when I drove up and said “Nice BMW GR Supra” I said thanks I really like it. I ask what do you drive and he pointed to a convertible 350z. It was a nice car, little worn but still nice. Over all wasn’t a bad conversation, but it was the first time I got the “it’s a BMW” I had gotten since owning the car so I felt honored.
I was leaving my local computer store (Micro Center) over the weekend and some guys in their early 20s were walking away from my car talking about how it's not as fast as a MKIV, how it looks fast but not fast at all, etc. They didn't know it was my car when I was walking past them. People act like the MKIV comes stock with 850HP and as if it doesn't take A LOT of money to build a 2jz. My high school friend is Rad Dan, driver on Formula Drift who has built 2jz's for 25+ years. It ain't cheap and some parts have been harder and harder to find. I have a prediction: Years after the MKV is no longer made, people will come around and like it more.

Just think, you made his life worse by not saying anything. He went back and bragged to all his broskis about what he said to the Supra owner at the gas station. Only to have now caused an ongoing joke within their group of loserness of how he has no idea what kind of engine his car has. They’re going to bust his balls until the end of time.
I'm a huge believer in Karma, so I do hope that happened cause he seems like those dudes.

He probably standing there like

The only out of the norm incident I've had was some guy in his company's van literally leaning out of his window screaming "NICE BMW" over and over and over again for the 4ish miles we were near each other. It was... odd.

Also a girl at the bar said I had a "very nice Miata", but I'm pretty sure that was intentional lmao.

On a serious note I'm merging these two threads together. They both basically cover the same topic.

My favorite was a nice guy I met at Costco, he guessed it was a $80k car and when I told him how much it was at sticker his jaw dropped to the floor lol

One time I passed a guy with an old Celica on I-91 outside of Brattleboro, VT. I then took the next exit and stopped at a convenience store and as I was getting out of my car I see that the black Celica has followed me off the freeway and into the parking lot. A guy gets out and asks me if he can take a photo of my car. Then he gets in his car and heads back onto the freeway.

To each their own. I do know that the majority of people really like the car. The ones that haven’t seen it before seem to be the most infatuated/appreciative with it. They get to make up their minds before anyone tells them anything different 😉

A good friend from work, his kid thinks my Supra is a race car, no matter what we tell him 😂 . His little mind is made up. Yes my car has to be the loudest car ever to pull up in their neighborhood, so I do kinda get it. It also adds fuel to the fire when we took him for a ride (he rode in his dad’s lap - short stint). He lives in a very nice neighborhood with many other nice cars imo. Yet neighbors walking their dogs or whatever stop by and ask questions about the car. It’s just that kind of car.

Anyway, this thread reminded me of all the other reasons why I love this car! I ended up speaking to my buddy about taking his kid to the track. So a weekend we’re both off, he’s going to bring his son to Sebring. He flys, so the easiest thing will be for him to fly (old WII air base - part track, part airfield). Creating memories for that little guy and us as well = priceless

Some of the many pleasant surprises I wasn’t expecting when I purchased this fun mobile.

I had a guy last weekend pull up to me in a mint 1992 Toyota Tacoma. He asked me to roll down my window and asked how I like my MKV. He started saying, "Supra is king of the road man! #1 !! Beautiful car" with a thick Latin accent. Due to the limited numbers produced and sold, seeing a MKV on the road is not as common as seeing a Miata, 350z, 370z, etc.

I had just bought my 2024 Mikan Blast, the week before when the doorbell rang. It was the Postal Carrier who wanted to know more about my car in the garage (door was open). He told me that he loves the design and that it reminds him of something an Italian designer would do. Of course, I said, "Let's check it out!" We ended up talking about the car for at least 5 minutes.
