I’ve had a deposit down for a few months on a 2024 with my preference being a manual AZ car w black interior. Whether it be a base or premium isn’t much of a concern. There is one buyer ahead of me on the deposit list who’s looking specifically for a black on black premium car. The dealer emails me about 6 weeks ago and says they have been allocated a black on hazelnut premium and that due to the interior the gentleman before me doesn’t want the car. I told him that I’m not opposed to a black car but that I didn’t think I loved the hazelnut interior. The car was scheduled to be delivered the end of this month and i very specifically said I’d like to see the car in person before making a definite decision. I email him yesterday and was told the car is “spoken for.” Now if the #1 deposit didn’t take it and I think I should’ve been afforded the opportunity to see it before passing on it. In all honesty I probably would’ve passed on it but the situation is making me a little apprehensive about things. I returned his email expressing this and have yet to hear back. What are your thoughts?

Well if there was a buyer that wanted the car without seeing it, and you wanted to see it before you pull the trigger on it then there is a chance you would not buy it. The dealer was right to sell it. Hold out for what you want.

you expect the dealer to wait on you an unsure on what he wants when they already have someone who is sure already to buy. Dont know what you want to hear, honestly what they did was justified

The order on the list of deposits is supposed to mean something right? It’s not like I came to see the car and said I wasn’t sure. The car got sold before it even arrived. I never said that I definitively didn’t want it. I feel like the list is there for a reason

They don't care. My friend was number 15 on the list for a GR Corolla. But their rep pulled the allocation and gave it him before everyone else because he was a friend and was paying cash.

You didn't accept the car, they aren't going to sit on something while you think about it if there is another buyer waiting. The moment you said you'd need to see it first, 5 mins later they were calling the next guy.

There’s no sitting. If they have $1,000 “non refundable” deposit from me and the one guy in front of me says no, that car is mine. Until I say I don’t want it, it’s my car. That is how these things are supposed to work. If I’d let the car sit at the dealer without coming to finalize the sale, yes I would agree. But had I decided to take it, I wouldn’t have had that option because they jumped my spot on the list before the car was even delivered. Idk where you guys do your business but if this is what you’re used to and you think this to be decent customer service then I’d hate to see what you think is bad.

No, princess, that is not how it's supposed to work. Shit or get off the pot.

Sorry but no. Sure, if the exact spec you requested became available, you might have a point - Although I'd have expected you to sign over the deposit and put a ring on it immediately.

I know it sucks but in your own words, you wanted to see the car; Someone else wanted to own it.

🤷‍♂️

Sounds like the tan interior isn't up your alley anyways, so I wouldn't sweat it if I were you. Personally, I don't know how someone could be that undecided on it, as it's been out for almost a year and a half, with thousands of photos that capture how it looks. It's not like CU Later or Mikan Blast where the color is hard to capture with photos.

From personal ownership experience, people either loved it, or they didn't. I knew I'd be head over heels for it the day it was announced, and it's a non-negotiable for me on my new car. I love it so much, that if I'm forced to take a 2024 without it, I'll buy it from a wrecked car and swap it in myself.

Point being; if you're not gaga over the color, it probably isn't for you..and yes, it IS harder to keep clean.

Honestly, there are so few of these cars in the market and the demand has not shown any signs of slowing down. FYI to let you know that being on a list to get a car that you preordered and the dealer had one that was not what you wanted and they did offer it to you and you were unsure…. They will still try to fill your order but I wouldn’t whine about what the dealer did. You asked to see a car before you made a decision to change your order and you just don’t own that car because you are #1 in line. You have the first right and sounds like you were unsure about that so they sold a sure thing. In reality this helps the dealer get the car you wanted faster because it’s depleted from their inventory faster so they can earn another.

If the car isn’t specifically what you asked for then, it’s not yours, if the car was the one you asked for then yeah it would have been first dibs for you.
Like someone else said, the moment you said you’d like to see it before buying it then, the dealer did what was in their best interest.

Your contract says this,? By all means post it.

Personally, I think you missed out, the biscuit looks great on a black car.

The sooner everyone realizes dealers give zero F’s about anyone, the better everyone will be.
So true. It's like a middle aged woman dangling fat out of her dress with zero hesitation. :fear:
