I understand most members in here does not feel sympathetic for the driver. And I feel same way. However, I also wanted to see the other side of coin. What if his plan was not passing cars on shoulder but trying to avoid head on collision?

I had a student who had a really nice setup, 800 hp, adjustable suspension, wheels, wings, carbon here, carbon there, nice looking brake system /w caliper and ETC.. On very first full out lap after warm up, I told him to brake about twice of distance I'd normally brake. I can feel that he is on hard brake but car was not stopping. ABS wasn't even kicking in. This usually happen because friction on tire to road is greater than brake pad to rotor. We were very close to crashing but thankfully, we avoided cars in front of us as well as the wall. after that, I asked him to brake 3~4 times of normal distance. after the session, I inspected the brake. There it was... In Big Letters, "R1 Concept". This is the brand I will avoid at any cost due to inferior performance especially brake pads. I don't care how low dust it makes. And it questions, are any other part of this brand good enough for any car? Please don't skimp out on brake. Even if you can stop only 1 foot faster, you might avoid an accident.

I'm not saying driver of this supra used inferior brake but a possibility. perhaps combined with distraction such as using phone like navigation or other app. Couldn't brake hard enough to slow down and made decision to get on shoulder to avoid head on collision with silver SUV but made it even worse.

Again, not sympathetic due to his poor decisions.

I'd like to move this thread to a more productive direction (if OP is okay with that).

What can (we), the community of Supra owners learn from this, so we don't repeat the same mistakes, and give the voting public more excuses to penalize all enthusiasts? I'll get us started...

1. Enjoy the cars and coffee, don't pull stunts to impress the crowd.
2. Cold tires = limited traction, limited grip. Go easy on throttle application until temps are stable, full VSC and TC are your friend.
3. Do HPDE to learn yaw control and tire management with instructor. Do a local AutoX to learn car control and limit handling.
4. Know the roads and traffic conditions/flow. Do advance recon drive to understand camber, pot holes, hazards, etc. b4 spirited drives.
So good basic driver's training eludes many it seems. Driving is a technical exercise the lack of training is shown in so many of these type accidents. Its a bit more than common sense. Its about training and a lack of it. Cold tires, warm engine oil etc is not relevant only to performance driving but driving every single day. Basic tire management starts with tires in good condition, pressure etc.
Up to 30% of students fail the Driving Theory test in Germany. You have to pass that before you are allowed an actual driving test to gain a license.

Theoretical Training

  • Duration: 4 to 8 weeks
  • What Happens: You will go through a series of classes covering various topics like road signs, traffic rules, and first-aid procedures. This written test evaluates your knowledge of road signs, traffic regulations, and safe driving practices.
Theoretical Exam

  • Duration: 1 day
  • What Happens: Upon completion of your theoretical training, you take the theoretical exam.
  • Additional Time: If you fail, a waiting period and additional study time may extend this phase.
Practical Training

  • Duration: 2 to 4 months
  • What Happens: This involves hands-on driving lessons. The number of sessions may vary based on your prior driving experience and skill level. After sufficient training, you'll face the practical driving exam. An examiner will assess your driving skills, including your ability to handle various traffic situations, park, and execute safe lane changes.
Practical Exam

  • Duration: 1 day
  • What Happens: The practical exam tests your driving skills in real-world scenarios.
  • Additional Time: Failing this exam means you must undergo additional training and wait for a retest, extending your timeline.

This is the correct way to qualify drivers for public roads. We don't have autobahnen but many interstate highways permit speeds between 65 to 75 mph.

Passing on the right, off road, construction zone, warning cones out - they don’t mean speed up or go off road 😳. So you think his brakes could have been out and throttle stuck at the same time? I’m still betting a toxicology report will tell more to this story. Dude should have lifted long ago and pulled over.

We need that so badly over here! Driving is a privilege, not a right. You drive under the influence or as extreme as that video above, loosing that right is a no brainer. Love driving in Germany btw.

I'm not saying that's what happened, just suggesting another possibility. But in any possible scenario, that supra driver is still reckless.

It's not a possibility in this case; look at the video. Good grief, he could have been avoiding aliens, a meteor, whatever hypothetical you want to introduce doesn't change what he did.

Must have been a dishonest highway he was traveling on, right?
It was in New Jersey...a state known for its honest people, government & infrastructure

I mean that will probably buff right out right…

unfortunately that was just pure dumbass. He was absolutely hauling ass, classic case of driving outside his skill set resulting in a rapid unscheduled vehicle disassembly with mass part relocation.
