I ordered a replacement key from Toyota of Katy in January. Just spoke with them today and they said Toyota has discontinued the key and all keys have to go through BMW now and will cost way more.

Original Part Numbers
89904-WAA12 TRANSMITTER SUB-A List 186.25
69515-WAA01 KEY, MASTER List 61.63

New Part Numbers
66125-A406E-1 RADIO REMOTE CONT List 761.11
51217-40121-7 INTEGRATED KEY List 203.72

Has anyone else heard this? My car only came with 1 key, I definitely feel safer with a backup. Am I SOL and have to bite the bullet and pay almost a G to get one?

Maybe Toyota got tired of subsidizing BMW keys.

I'd try a few different dealerships though. That sounds like a load of crap to me - what company discontinues parts for a car that's still being sold new?

Odd that you only got one key when you bought it. Was it a used car and the previous owner lost one of them?

Used 2020, only came with 1 key. I heard that some other people who bought new only got 1 key because of supply issues.

If I have a spare key from a different supra that was declared total loss, would I be able to get it coded for my new supra?

Yeah, this is BS. I always thought manufactures were legally required to build "10 years" worth of replacement parts for their vehicles.

I believe, BELIEVE, they have to supply replacement parts for at least 5 years after production ends. But maybe that’s not an issue since you can still get them from the same place Toyota themselves get them. That may be the difference.

Not sure how legal this is for Toyota due to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
Just got my Supra 2 weeks ago and Toyota has to pay for my keys for 5 years if I lose them, i got that package for free when i bought the wheel/tire protection pack. Ill be curious how that works lol

No, these newer Body Domain Controllers in our cars (and G-series BMW) cannot be reprogrammed with different keys. Similarly, if you found a matching set of keys + BDC, you still wouldn't be able to use it to start your car because of things such as information mismatch between DME and BDC.

If you lose all your keys, you have to get a replacement BDC + keys from BMW, and the dealer has to program it to your car.

This. Manufacturers are required to produce replacement parts for a certain period after production stops. I can’t remember specifics but from I recall it was a pretty long timeframe. Like 10 or 20 years??
