People want this car to be something it's not soooo bad that they are losing their vision. Denial is the fist step i suppose...

Where are the similarities? I have yet to hear a valid response without saying shifter, iDrive, or HVAC

Yes, those are the only similarities... This is how I feel when people say the cars look completely different

I guess i was just hoping for something amazing from Toyota, but they have been letting me down since 02', why change now haha

Why do you drive sports cars? It should be for the feeling above all else. The badge is irrelevant if the car 'feels' like a Supra (I6, RWD, Turbo). Names, logos are irrelevant when it comes to truly enjoying a sports car. Yes some auto manufacturers can make better cars than others, but what matters is what you feel when you're actually behind the wheel. B58 won Ward's best engine in recent years. Has to be good enough for that. At the end of the day it's still a combustion engine which has thousands of parts that can fail/wear over time. No such thing as a perfectly reliable combustion engine because of its nature. People just need to enjoy the last of the ICE era, be thankful sports cars are still made (especially at an affordable price).

The A90 is going to be a good sports car with good aftermarket parts, eventually able to make very good power and be good on street, track or drag strip. The interior has some BMW components but the overall design is pretty unique.

I for one haven't drive an MkIV or any other Supras and am in the market for a new, relatively affordable, good handling sports/performance car that is set above the GT86 I currently own and I think the Supra, other than lack of manual transmission, is perfect for that.

Before I make my final decision, unlike several people here who condemn the car without so much as seeing one in real life, let alone driving it, will be test driving the competition as much as I possibly can, and from what I've read so far, I expect it to be right up there with the best of them. It doesn't matter what internet randoms say, Toyota say it is worthy of the Supra name, and from what I know from Tada-san and the 86, I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

In all honesty I think this car will be great, but I am not sure the reliability is going to be there. If anything, just wait 3 or 4 years and you'll be able to pick one of these up for dirt cheap... just look at the current BMW market and how quickly they plunge in price. When it comes to the love/hate relationship with this car... I think most people have an issue with the overwhelming presence of BMW in a TOYOTA Supra. I mean, even down to the door chime is BMW. I'm a little bummed that there isn't more of a visual Toyota influence in this car and will just feel like sitting in another Beemer with a Toyota skin. Regardless, I'm excited there is another sports car coming from Toyota, but they should have called it something else

Now, if Toyota's standards have changed recently to accept "lower quality" or "less reliable" components to save a buck, then I agree with all of you that not only will the car fail, but Toyota as a brand will take a heavy hit. Would it be safe to say that if Toyota's new halo car is unreliable, then all other cars in their lineup will be as bad if not worse? If so, does that mean Toyota is now dead, because their brand has been synonymous for reliability....what does that leave them with now?

I've never owned one to know. I thought about picking one up now that they depreciated to less than 10K to beat around the track.
As far as quality, they're built like a typical Subaru vehicle. Yes they are manufactured in FHI but I can see the quality difference between, say an 86 and a Corolla at the dealership. The paint is extremely thin, swirls and the front bumper peppers very easily. Interior reeks of very low grade ABS plastic parts.

Not that it is unreliable, it is not "Supra" worthy. Toyota had requested that it would be detuned due to reliability issues.

Do you have any proof that it is "detuned" against the BMW counterparts? The Z4 in EU markets has the same power and it is due to the filter in the exhaust system for emissions which the Supra also has. It has been stated previously that the Supra has this filter in all markets whereas the Z4 does not have it in the US leading to seemingly higher power from the same engine.

Do you have an official source of a Toyota rep stating this? From what Toyota reps had stated, they felt that the 335 HP figure felt ideal for the chassis and suspension tune they were seeking with the car.
