....Really now?

I know of several high profile crashes, including nick hogans where no one died (I know about the passenger that was because of no seatbelt)

I don’t know if ANY crashes in the U.K. where someone died in a supra.

“Everyone dies” was well off the mark
Lucky you, I've been to plenty of funerals after friends crashed Supras. They're not safe cars. Not even close by today's standards.

That being said, that wasn't the point of that post in the least.

Unfortunately "Are you willing to purchase a new Supra with a manual, spoiler, targa, vents, and 16 more hp at an unknown price 5-7 years from now?" isn't a great tactic for gauging the market
I will buy it brand new from the dealer Tomorrow if it came that way, make it 20hp though, make it $90k and ill still get it as long as it ticks the boxes it should of to begin with

Exactly this. When I saw the TRD silhouette I was like “holy shit they’re going to nail it and do another 3000gt” but it’s like they haven’t even bothered and I don’t understand why...

Honestly the last thing left is the GRMN and after what’s happened so far it wouldn’t surprise me if the GRMN was carbon mirror caps and exhaust tips...
I have a feeling TRD will eventually come out with a "3000GT type body kit" but damn Toyota... how you gonna tease us with that silhouette though.

 Yeah and I'll get classified as a MKV hater. :fear:

Dude if you wanna compare it like that, then it's far more similar to the MKIV than the E89 by the numbers.

MkIV
Wheelbase: 100.4
Overall Length: 177.8
Overall Width: 71.3
Overall Height: 49.8
Track Width Front: 59.9
Track Width Rear: 60.1

The only thing is that the wheelbase is shorter than all of the cars we're comparing it to, and the track width is wider. Which has been explained numerous times as being to make the car more square for handling balance.

I'm just gonna reiterate this, the car wasn't based off an existing Z4 platform lol, there was no existing Z4 platform. Just because the wheelbase is shorter than the last Supra doesn't mean it magically was based off another platform. Every generation of Supra has gotten shorter and more agile, this is no exception.

Of course it's not based off the E89. The G29 has closer dimensions to the E89 then the MKV does to the MKIV.

So does the MKV not share the same platform as the G29?

Z4 (G29)
Wheelbase: 97.2 in

Overall Height: 51.3

Wheelbase: 101.2
Overall Length: 166.7

I’ll start by saying that’s awful and my condolences. I don’t wish death on anyone let alone a fellow enthusiast.

However from my point of view, they’re safe in every encounter I’ve ever had. Crashed into the back of a friend once in my SZ years ago and we were fine. I’d argue it’s perfectly safe. Maybe not as safe as modern cars, obviously, but to say it’s unsafe is hugely ingenious.

The rest of your post was that TRD should be supplying weak trim peices?

TRD used to supply interior upgrades, whole bodykits, exhaust, spoilers, mechanical parts. You name it. Why even bother with this if GR are supposedly going to provide something?

And you mentioned wheelbase/dimensions which is a fair comment as you’re correct. What I disagree on is that it wasn’t based off a platform BMW didn’t already have. I believe they had the chassis developed and BMW just used it to fulfill Toyotas request:

“Toyota ordered a sports car as a coupe from us [BMW], which we developed according to our order,” said BMW Z4 Project Manager Andreas Ederer

So all the agreements published since 2012 about a 'joint sports car' project were wrong?

Toyota said the opposite. Again this is called word-of-mouth differences, not factual differences. Who is right? It is impossible to tell with conflicting answers.

Fair comment. It’s all speculation. All of it.

So I wasn’t wrong when I questioned Guffs post :dunno:

I love that TRD went all carbon fiber with the additional body parts. However, I don't want to sound harsh, but it looks way too "ricey" for my own taste. I really liked the concept at first, but the more I looked at the pictures, I just thought to myself--"that's a little too excessive..."

If I can get my hands on the Supra, I will definitely get it. Hopefully the launch edition. Then, I'll wait for the other performance tuning companies to start releasing their own kits/parts. I definitely would love the OEM front & rear splitters/aprons to be available as carbon fiber. But the overly done fins is just too much.

Seems like some of you thought TRD was releasing the unicorn GRMN model or something lol.

@Guff you are 110% right, they were not safe in a collision. Not just the Supra, but most of those 90's car to be honest. Not going to mention any names on this forum out of respect, but I personally knew a good man who died in a Supra too. Unless you owned a Volvo back then, nothing was very safe in a collision.
