- 2024 Supra 45th, Mikan 2008 Mazda MX5 PRHT manual
Both oils listed in our owner's manuals are fully certified. They are not cheap, regarding quality or cost.I believe we need BMW certified oil for the possibility of increased timing chain wear (if anyone here is actually going to drive/keep their Supra for over 125k miles, timing chain needs a special BMW tool or an engine out service for the B58). Cheap oil won't kill your engine as long as you're replacing it every give or take 3,000 miles or 5,000 (synthetic).
True, and hopefully, Toyota and BMW update their manuals if there are changes to relevant components in the B58 engine, but at present, does anyone here really think that the oils listed in a 2025 Supra manual will cause premature engine component wear for typical street use? Both of you guys are right in your own way and how you guys use your cars. The list of approved oils is always subject to additions and subtractions, that should be a given as oil companies are always needing to update and recertify their oils to meet OEMs' periodically updating their oil certifications.
If you do, that's where we disagree. Let's leave it at that.
