So what is Toyota aiming to do: Make a more expensive car that is worse? The more I think about it, the more I think this is Toyota's NSX moment.
Probably to build a great car that serves the purpose of homologating a GT3 race car and selling them at a price to those who may appreciate it in numbers that will ensure they get enough sold to comply with said homologation.

You keep saying "worse". If "worse" to you is a set of numbers on a piece of paper then why do you even own a Supra? Don't bother answering, I'm not going to continue debating over a set of assumptions.

I’m pissed at the pricing because I can’t afford it. If I had $300K laying around I would buy one. This car is not for the common enthusiast.

Lets see what Toyota offers us next below $100K.

wow seriously...

what is better or worse is subjective to each and everyone of us. Look around the reviews online, the Corvettes have their flaws and some of those are more or less important to some people depending on what they prioritise in a car.

The latest Toyota GR cars, they all have nothing impressive on paper (GR86, Supra and GR Corolla), it's only when you sit behind the wheel and actually start enjoying them that they start to make sens to most of us...

I have the feeling that the same will be true for this new car, It'll be enjoyable when you drive it and it might not be worth it to you if the focus of the car does not prioritise what is classified as "better" in your book

I have owned a lot of different cars, form Nissans to Honda to BMW to Audi to VW to Porsche and those 3 GR cars, they are the cars I have kept the longest in my whole life. I even sold my GT4 to buy the Supra.

I find it VERY important as enthusiasts to buy the brand new cars that we like to show the manufacturers that there is interest in those cars and that it can be financially viable to build and sell them.

I'm really curious if Toyota is using the baseball bat now positioning a GR MR2 against a Ferrari 296

Nice MR2 rendering, hope the real thing isn't too far off.

The rumor has been that the chassis and exterior design took longer because the engineers eventually went with a double rear decklid design like the AW11 and SW20 1st and 2nd generations because they considered it a better choice.

This render looks like CarScoops only mildly modified the concept BEV design that showed a couple of years ago which predated that design change. This render looks like it has only a single decklid.

The engine could theoretically be accessed from under the very narrow rear glass canopy pictured above if it were to flip up but that would go against the double rear decklid approach they supposedly went with.

I don't think the above concept picture, beautiful as it is, will reflect the real production GR MR2.

A GR MR2 vs a $300,000+ Ferrari 296... not very likely!

Hmmm I hope that's not the case. I think the concept looks petty cool and I wouldn't want any delays on the project. I'm seriously considering something like this for my next car.

I don't think there would be any additional delay. I last heard of that design decision many months ago. As to the exterior design itself as pictured (since it's just the Toyota MR2-*like* BEV concept) there may well be a difference since there's only a single decklid in that design in the picture.
