You would get a lot of interest for just the trim piece that the OEM shift boot attaches to. You have to buy the entire boot just for that plastic piece.

I would think a lot of people would buy that trim piece to add their own shift boot and knob without having to hack up the OEM boot.

When I did my shift knob I simply bought another shift knob and boot assembly and keep it as a spare if I ever want to return to stock and modified the original.

Yeah I hear you, I believe this piece can be used as both, either ran with an aftermarket boot or without. But the user would have to thread their screws in themselves for the shift boot. Still in test fit stage though.

The OEM boot is attached by glue and staples to the plastic trim.

You can affix the shift boot to the trim any way you like. I just said screws, you can use glue, staples, clips, etc.

Ah got it. If this had come up long ago I would have bought one to pair with my BFI shift boot.

Installed a BFI Alcantara shift boot to match my Alcantara interior. Stayed with the silver stitching to match the rest of the car.

Shift knob is from Billetwerkz. Shifting feels like a night and day difference with a heavier knob.

Does the BFI boot come with a retaining bezel, or do you have to reuse the stock one?

I have their GT1 knob and absolutely love it. They are each handmade and well worth the price. You can customize them however you want; the material, engraving, even the color underneath the leather.

I’m looking at the GT1 as well, almost exactly same spec as yours. What weight did you go for? They have a range of weights (200-300 gm, 300-400 gm, etc.). Were you able to request a more exact weight?

It doesn't reuse the OEM style clip. It uses a set screw that is hidden on the front of the knob. Once tightened, it doesn't move at all.

Here's how the adaptor works at least one version. I made this myself based on the Raceshift design but I wanted the shifter height lower so I made my own. The adaptor slides over the shift lever and is held in place by the 4 set screws and the knob screws onto the adaptor. The original slotted end of the lever sticks out the top and isn't used. You can turn the adaptor on the shaft so the threaded knob orientates itself correctly and tighten the set screws. Mine also has a groove for the shift boot to locate in and is tied off with some waxed dental floss to hold it in place.

Yes they have a large hole in them with threads, lol. But seriously my Raceng knob is a lot heavier than the OEM one and I think it improves the shift action. This is a purely subjective view remember and I'm not going to tell you it's a "game changer" but I prefer it slightly to the OEM weight. My total shifter length is also around 1/4 in shorter as well so that has to be accounted for. Interestingly the theory for a shorter shift lever has some legs I think and for the same reason as motorcycle shift levers. The shorter the shifter shaft the less leaverage you have over the shifting mechanism and the detent spring in particular so to make the lever move you need to apply greater hand pressure to the lever to get the shift detent spring to release. This then translates into greater kinetic energy when the detent spring does release and changes the shift action. All dependant on the original setup of course. I did a modification to the shift lever design on a particular motorcycle brand a few years ago and it ended up in a small production run it worked so well for that bike. The principle is the same for a car shifter but as I mentioned it's influence is dependent on the original design.
