Appreciate the thread! Just happened to me and I was really pissed/bummed that something was seriously wrong but feeling better now. Hopefully I can remove it myself, otherwise will probably have it towed to be safe.

if it's not a big one, just tapping is likely to knock it loose. Otherwise pushing on the shield a little (after letting it cool) with your hands should clear it.

I tried pushing/pulling on the shield slightly with no luck. Then tried just reversing a little quicker and also turning the steering wheel back and forth and problem solved! My neighbors probably thought I was drunk or crazy doing this in my driveway at midnight . Thx guys!

These almost always work out on their own with little or no damage (worst case might be a groove on the rotor that will eventually go away). Going in reverse is a good trick.

This is very common and will continue to happen. Just buy a low profile jack and ratchet set up.

Pull the wheel off and look with a flashlight behind the rotor and dust plate.

take a flat head screw driver and tap the rock/pebble out with the flat head while applying pressure to the dust plate to make space.

shouldn't take more then 15 min.

Thanks,
Justin

^^^ Except when your far away from home.
Than ā€œturn and burnā€ it will burn its way out within 10-15 min on the highway.

I also have this problem a lot, maybe 10-15 times now. I thought my brakes were locked when it first happened. I found the trick is to accelerate to 60mph then it'll clunk as the rock falls out. Some other forums also said reversing fast also works but I didn't for me. Should only take you about 3.8 sec or less to do it ;)

Got one on the way to my buddies house. First time it has only taken me one bang on each side with a screwdriver to get it out. Thankfully it was easy and didnā€™t have to take the wheel off cause it sounded awful

this is a common BMW thing ... ( i had this on my m3/m4/i8 many times ) just use a stick to bend out dustshield and stone will fall out ... sometime driving in reverse for 20 feet shifts it.
