I don't see how it can be considered a sell out, it's a limited production car
A better example is the Electric Mustang
This is gonna get a little heavy....it's like if you were infertile and you gave your wife to your friend to make a baby for you. Is there no shame in that? If you cannot do it on your own, maybe it is better to be without. Especially from an Asian company/culture where pedigree is so important, "adoption" just does the Supra nameplate no justice. Perhaps the Supra nameplate is not so sacred or Toyota just doesn't give a shit about the Supra name anymore. Maybe it was desperation.

I wonder how much more or less successful this car would be if the name wasn't Supra.

So what about adoption? People can adopt children that have different genes than them, but raise the child as their own. They can instill their values, morals and education (drawing the comparison to the tuning and characteristics of a car). Can they not consider their adopted child their own?

a lot of people running their mouths, they drive shit boxes. Compliments to me always come from people with more expensive cars like Porsche, Audi, bmw, and etc.
Been much the same for me. I get stupid comments, it's kids online that drive shitboxes and think the MKIV came from the factory with 500+. More often than not, the thumbs up and compliments come from others in sports cars and usually higher end ones.

It does get old, not that it bothers me, just more that I've seen/heard the same tired ass joke so many times already. I personally like the car a lot and am having a whole lot of fun with it. Downpipe and an E50 tune on ECUtek currently.

I definitely agree most of the haters drive shitboxes. At the end of the day I don't really care what people think like a lot of you have mentioned. The same ole worn out jokes I'm over. I think it's a great car for the money and what else is out there.

Maybe this is a stretch here, but i would say if you were old enough and were financially able to buy a mkiv supra new in the 90’s and you didn’t then you have no right to complain about the bmw thing now. The joint venture was only necessitated by its predecessors weak sales and were lucky it was brought back at all. Everyone wants to complain about it but nobody wants to put their money where their mouth is lol
I wish, I was in hs then and admired one classmate whose parents bought him a white one and few months later, he totaled it out...

I'm part of a few local facebook car enthusiast pages and anytime a new Supra gets shared the comments are full of sarcastic post like "Nice BMW" or "Sounds like a z4" and so on. I don't even own one yet and I'm over comments like these. It was kind of funny 6 months ago but they are way past being funny anymore and more on the annoying side. I'm sure most people making the comments couldn't afford one anyways. I find it funny that somehow calling something a bmw is now a diss. I've seen similar comments on the c8 post "Nice mclaren" "looks good for a ferrari"

What's been the reception so far when out and about in your new Supra. Any haters?
I think part of it is accepting that it is majority BMW and it does sound like the current BMW models with it's shift farts. Once you realize that, then "Nice BMW" no longer has any negative connotation.

Got a chance to read this article. How funny, I love how he said "it’s so slow" I think people associate the MK4 Supra with modded ones. Stock they weren't all that impressive. Simple math shows that the MK4 has around 11lbs per hp and the MK5 would be around 8-9lbs per hp.
If you compared the MKIV back in it's 1993 debut to it's competition, it was impressive.

1993 Toyota Supra TT: 320hp/315 ft-lbs
1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4: 320hp/315 ft-lbs
1993 Nissan 300ZX TT: 300hp/283 ft-lbs
1993 Ford Mustang Saleen: 325hp/350 ft-lbs
1993 Dodge Viper RT/10: 400hp/465 ft-lbs
1993 Mazda RX-7 TT: 255hp/217 ft-lbs
1993 Acura NSX: 285hp/215 ft-lbs
1993 Porsche 911 Turbo: 360hp/384 ft-lbs
1993 Ferrari 512 TR: 421hp/360 ft-lbs
1993 Ferrari F40: 478hp/424 ft-lbs
1993 Chevy Corvette ZR-1: 405hp/385 ft-lbs
1993 BMW M3: 240hp/236 ft-lbs

Lol.. you are reading into this too much... I'm not asking for suggestions how to deal with these shit talkers. I was asking if anyone from this group has seen it as well and if they were tired of it too. I could care less about some comment on the internet. I think the jokes have expired for being funny any longer.

Totally agree. Back in the day it was impressive but the gentleman in that article was comparing it to the new supra and as much as I love the mk4, there is a difference between the two for specs.

TBH 90% of the time I get people giving positive feedback, thumbs up, wow nice Supra, etc...and the amazing thing is that it is all ages and genders. Once in a while you those individuals who are on the bandwagon that commute by bus, that yell, "Nice BMW". I either just ignore it now, or respond back saying, "Yea, it is indeed" with a nice big smile.

No he's not. He's comparing the MKV to the A3 and then the A45 AMG. He also mentions and the "puff piece" by Toyota which Toyota did for the launch in both Spain and the U.S. He starts talking about it at around 14:50

It's common sense really
After all, since it has a Toyota badge, it is made to be a Toyota car
If it was really a BMW, then it would have been the same car as the Z4 and I mean everything would be the same

Besides SF/JDM fanbois the biggest butthurt group are BMW fanbois. Below are some of the main talking points/rehash discussion on the other side.

BMW sold out to TOYota.
Disgusting that a BMW share bones with a TOYota.
IDC how good the Zupra is because its really a BMW. So all the credit goes to BMW regardless.
Zupra is fugly! Lol, kettle calling the pot black. Have y'all taken a good look at the i3, 3 & 5/6 Series Gran Turismo, huge grille X7 / facelift 7 series.
