Huge thanks to tadda for making this DIY and everyone else that chipped in along the way. This has definitely helped. I can listen to the music and hear no rattles or vibrations now. I ended up doing it without the mesh for the time being as I couldn’t find any mesh that wouldnt take another week and half for delivery so I just skipped that.

Anywhere else we can get the 2" foam pad? That one you provided the link for is currently out of stock and I can't find a similar one. Thanks bro!
it’s upholstery foam. If you can’t find on amazon or eBay try a local crafts or fabric store like Joann Fabrics, Michaels or Hobby Lobby

I meant to ask this but keep forgetting but cant you just remove the sub covers completely to stop the rattle coming from that? Honestly I hate the sub covers to begin with. Wish they were just black.

Are you talking about the large sub cover (#11) below? Or the sub grills (#14)?

If it's grill covers your speaking of, then sure you can remove them, but personally I don't think that would look any better...

sub grills (#14). I actually didnt have rattle coming from those so I never applied the silicon on it. But I was looking at it earlier and was thinking for those that do why not just remove it. and that color is just throwing me off because the sub grill doesn’t match anything else on the interior. If they are easy to remove I may try wrapping them and see if it looks better or removing.

Personally, I don't mind the grill appearance and they seem to blend into the rest of the trim...

Some of the music I enjoy is Ethereal Techno and EDM that has some very low bass notes and I like to listen to it played at 2/3 volume...This really tests the systems bass response!

At those low frequencies I did notice some minor vibrations that do occur between the grill cover and grill...Silicon adhesive between the two grill pieces fixed that issue for me...

You could possibly find another grill design of similar diameter and attach it to the main cover using industrial velcro...

Finally got this done. Thanks for the help guys, particularly @tadda, @Kiwi Greg and @stacyoz.

I kind of made do with the stuff I could find locally in OZ, so it looks a little different.

Mesh was from stationery, partner was looking for a document tray and I didn't mind a new pen cup, so cut up the magazine file. Held in place with outdoor mounting take and pvc tape on top so adhesive does not collect dirt.

The speaker ports I found were 58mm (51mm = 2") flared... also they were long so I cut them to size (dremel for the win) which allowed me to make a very short port (thanks Tadda for the idea). Because it was flared it looks alot larger, but diameter was only a quarter of an inch larger than other people's...

Random tips/thoughts:
  • If you are unsure if this will improve the subwoofer... before committing, just remove the panel and turn on your music. If it sounds better, your subwoofer will be better ported.
  • Cable ties can be daisy chained.
  • Foam can be cut perfectly with a bread knife.
  • In hindsight, a speaker grille (see tadda's alternative) instead of the port/mesh is probably the better idea. You have more airflow, and you don't have to cut and mount a mesh for dust.
@tadda the measurement of the total length of the centre foam piece should be 15.5" i.e. 6.5" x 2 + 2.5" = 15.5".

@Kiwi Greg That jaycar speaker damping was thick... I saw your photo of what was left and I was wondering if you on;ly filled one speaker box, then I realised even when I halved the thickness it was hard to fit in...
