Not a sports car, but I was very happy to see that the 2021 Ford Bronco is available with a 7-speed manual transmission. Perhaps there is still some hope.

Jeff
Yes. I have been following that model. It looks to be a truly good body-on-frame off roader.

You can option the 6+1 7-speed manual on the 2.3L Ecoboost four cylinder turbo engine. 270hp and 310 ft-lbs of torque with 2WD/4WD modes. And a two-door available. Pretty good for a $29k starting price. I will look at one, actually.

Right now the only thing Ford has made a mistake on that needs correcting is that the “Sasquatch” package which among other equipment gives you factory locking differentials is available on every Bronco trim level *except* the manual. Granted you can add that equipment yourself far more easily than you can add a manual to a vehicle which never came with one but they need to fix that error in their product planning.

Still, Ford has pretty much knocked the Bronco out of the park.

Maybe there is still hope for a manual MKV indeed, Jeff.

Honestly the Bronco is Badass, I could see one being added to the stable in years to come.

Who said the manual Bronco with Sasquatch package wont have locking front and rear differentials? I believe the Badlands trim with the Sasquatch package as a 2.3l manual not only gives you locking front and rear diffs, but you also get the incredible crawl ratio of 94.75:1!!!

BTW, I put a reservation for one. This is what Toyota should have done with the FJ Cruiser. Ford did their homework.

Can't combine Sasquatch with manual. They will all be auto only (for now)

Wow, your right! Damn, I hope my reserve will allow for the manual option with Badlands and Sasquatch....otherwise I’m not getting one.

Unless they get their heads on straight and allow the Sasquatch package with the manual option then what you should do is keep your reservation for a manual edition and then you will have to go into the parts counter and start ordering all of the relevant Sasquatch parts that you will need to convert it to have the package (factory lockers, even differentials/ratios).

Ford seems to be making this one critical thing unnecessarily difficult for some reason. But think of it this way: it is MUCH more difficult to add a manual transmission to an automatic-only Bronco than to add the Sasquatch parts to a factory manual Bronco.

And yes, this is what Toyota *should* have done with the FJ but they aren't interested apparently despite an enormous following for their FJ70's. I guess their answer is "Please enjoy our very capable 4Runner, Highlander or land-barge Land Cruiser 200 that is clearly nothing like the FJ70 that you have repeatedly said you want to buy from us".

Ford has done this one right indeed.

I'm expecting Toyota to come out with a new FJ to compete, but it will have 200hp, a CVT, no lockers and street tires.

Not sure about the 200hp and CVT but word is they are redesigning the Land Cruiser to be a smaller, much more off-road focused version of the model. But given their 2025-2026 electrification mandate I fully expect it to be a hybrid.

Hybrid would honestly be great for offroad. Instant torque from the electric motor(s) would be a huge plus.

I heard this too....a more “utilitarian” version without all the bells and whistles called LC70 Concept. However, knowing Toyota nowadays, they will probably give us just another re-skinned 4Runner (not a bad thing, but not a FJ). I found out that the Badlands model does in-fact have lockers with manual transmission (which is key)....and 35’s can be ordered separately. I mean, it comes with 33’s, which is plenty. I for some reason thought you couldn’t get lockers with manual. I’m super excited for this rig....it checks all the boxes for me on a new 4x4!

Yeah I'm interested to see where that goes. Hoping they do something cool.

If there's one change that enthusiasts would make to the Toyota GR Supra range, it'd likely be to add a manual gearbox option. It's not that the eight-speed automatic is bad - far from it, in fact - but a stick shift would go some way to making this sharp coupe even better to drive.

Back at the start of the year, Toyota admitted it had tested manual versions of the Supra but there was no official word on it going into production. Well, it appears that the conversation has gained some momentum based on a report by the Japanese publication Mag X.

According to the magazine, a manual gearbox is "under preparation" for the Supra, which is the clearest sign yet that fans will soon be able to row their own gears. The news comes after several additions and improvements to the Supra range since it was launched, such as the addition of a four-cylinder base model and a more powerful six-pot engine.

Toyota clearly doesn't want the range to stagnate, and we can't think of anything that would prevent that more than the introduction of a manual. We already had our first taste of what a manual Supra would be like, but we expect a properly sorted 'box from the manufacturer to be even better.

At this point, we don't have specifics on the manual gearbox or how acceleration will be affected, but few enthusiasts are likely to be bothered if it's a few tenths off the pace of the automatic.

Along with a manual Supra, a high-performance GRMN variant with over 500 horsepower is also expected. It should make use of the upcoming BMW M3's turbo-six engine. This will take the Supra's performance into another league altogether and, between these two new additions, the Supra will soon be knocking even more loudly on the door of the Porsche 718 Cayman.
