By the way, my manual warns that you should not leave any OBD II device plugged in when you set the car alarm, or it will go off. My ScanGauge shuts down after voltage drops below a certain level (necessary for my Mazda 3 S GT with tech package). I think this is a setting that can be changed so that it powers down after vehicle shutdown.

Does anyone know if other monitoring devices that plug into the OBD II port (described and linked, above) shut down after vehicle shutoff to prevent the alarm from activating?

My JB4 stays plugged in all the time. No problemo. I connect whenever I want via the iOS app. Car locks no problems. Guess it depends on the device that‘s plugged in.

Okay, thanks. That's a good sign. I may call the manufacturer of my device to see if they've had any experience with the MKV.

Any device that can go into low power would work. All modern BMWs are like this, nothing unique to the Supra. You can also turn off the obd2 alarm on the car.

What is the purpose of the OBD II alarm?

To warn you that there is a parasitic dongle on the OBD2 port.
Ah, so it's "alarm" is actually the ear-splitting car alarm or a separate alarm?

I just recently looked at the panels that probably need to be removed if I am to snake the ScanGauge cable underneath the center console and over to the OBD II port.
Has anyone done this? This assembly image seems to show that there are no fasteners. Then again, this may be the wrong assembly image. I can't find anything else.

Why do you need to route it across the dash? Where are you putting the gauge?

5 and 6 in that diagram have twist lock fasteners. You just turn them with your fingers or a flathead screwdriver and the panels are loose. The fasteners are captive.

OBD2 port is on the drivers side

I had the ScanGauge setup this way in my Mazda 3.
The display unit sat in the lower center area of the console (like the Supra's wireless charging area). The cable exits to the right and needs to pass behind the charging area and out the opposite end. I can then wire tie the cable to something, above and plug in the connector.

Now that I think of it, I plugged the connector into the OBD II, first, then routed the cable from the left of the center area through the middle, out from the right side and then plug in the small connector into the ScanGauge.

Thanks for the tips about the fasteners. I'll have to get a better look when the car is parked outside. I can also swing out the doors further.

I vaguely remember panel 6 having finger twist fasteners, but panel number 5 either needed a 10mm socket or a Phillips screwdriver. I do recall being annoyed that it wasn't twist lock on both sides

Now why would they go and make a trivial change like this, but then ignore the wind buffeting problem. and only half-ass the change, to boot.

how it looks on the 2023:
