I have a JL Audio 12 microsub from my last vehicle that I plan on putting in my trunk. Will power with a 900 w JL amp. Should I add something new where the factory 8’s are and power with a separate amp. Would this “fill in” some good sound or would it just be lost due to the 12? TIA

Most people who are doing what you are, would be possibly replacing the DSP amp and using the stock 8s for mid bass duty. It’s not perfect in any way. But doable

I did the @tadda port mod and added the Alpha One Lightwave DSP amp with the "extra bass" file. MUCH improved!

The OEM subs and their location is definitely not ideal, but they look cool and take up minimal space over adding another box. Especially for those trying to keep their factory look and/or precious real estate back there intact.

I personally have those speakers deactivated, but I would recommend than for mid bass as they don’t seem very good at being true subs, but they are actually pretty good. A MOST25 DSP and your amp which you will probably need can do that. If your sub covers a good range, then you might want them deactivated like I did. It’s personal taste
