I live in the southeast and drive with the AC on all the time, mountains, 100 F weather, etc. No power issues. AT is fantastic, especially in traffic.

I only picked a MY over the AT I’ve driven fo simple engagement. It’s just a weekend, fair weather car. I know from past experience with AT that my joy comes from smashing the throttle and holding on. The MT has given me pleasure by just spirited driving and rowing gears. Happy with my choice, but I’m well aware I won’t compete with an AT.

I have the mt and picked it up about 4 months ago and love it. Get whatever you want and don’t look back. It will be difficult to find a manual with your exact specs due to there being so few produced.

as someone who also owns a manual NB1 I know your pain, when the AC comes on it is like adding ane extra 200lbs lol. But on the supra as far as i can tell there is absolutely 0 difference between AC on/ off, I drive with it on all the time since it is a must in Florida, and the very few times I have driven with it off, car does not feel any faster at all.

Underpowered NA 1.6L/1.8L Miata vs Turbocharged 3.0L modern engine.....?

AC is still belt driven. Normal Sanden brand compressor... Nothing special about it.. It still draws power, maybe ECU compensates somehow. Dunno.. Refrigerant is different than what it was in the 80s. Uses RF1234YF... Doesn't change power draw afaik.

I just did a search to try to find out if it’s still belt driven, and it supposedly is. So in theory it could still sap power, but maybe it’s more efficient somehow so it’s not really noticeable.

for the last couple of decades, performance cars have had cutouts for the AC compressor whenever the pedal is depressed past a certain point, or the vacuum drops below a specific level. I believe similarly for turbo vehicles, when boost hits a certain point, the compressor will drop out (not literally
 )

If you want to track the car, AT all the way. If you're not going to track the car MT all the way lol.

I love MT cars. I have driven MT cars for well over 25 years and have done dozens of AutoXs over the years. The ZF 8-speed is literally a cheat code on track.

Funny thing about the AC. I was at an HPDE yesterday and it was warm but extremely humid. I had the AC cranking sitting in my car troubleshooting my lap timer, and forgot to shut it off before I got on track...

Long story short, I set a PB with the AC on "maximum" :rofl:

My DD is a 2019 Yaris sedan with a 6MT (technically a Mazda2), and I swear Mazda's four cylinders have the most abrupt, power-sapping A/C compressors on earth. Engineers say it only draws about 3 hp, but I wouldn't have to turn the bastard off on every mild highway incline if that were true. I'm very sensitive to the compressor turning on and off in most vehicles, and it annoys me to no end. The industry should've switched to fully-electric compressors (ie Prius) long before they stole our beautiful hydraulic power steering in the name of energy savings.

That being said, my Supra and my 6.0L Yukon are the only two in recent memory that are practically imperceptible as they switch on and off. The MT drives and revs no differently with the A/C on, and thank God for that.

It seriously feels like it saps half of the Miata's torque. As we all know Miata's already have non-existent torque lol.

I am happy to hear that it's not noticeable with the Supra!.

I have not noticed any change to the way my 6MT drives with the AC on. Most newer cars will disengage the AC compressor automatically if you go WOT.

I know what you're talking about though, my Tacoma (4.0L V6) drives like a completely different vehicle with the AC on. It's not the cut in power so much as it changes how fast the revs rise or fall between shifts. Really annoying as it's my DD.
