So I’ll be the first to admit I am not computer tech savvy at all, but while playing around in diagnostic modes, System test the gauge cluster and all the color. Why hasnt someone figured out how to code to have the cluster flash, a particular color at or near redline? Is this even possible? I’d definitely pay a premium if this can be figure out.

How do you invoke this diagnostic mode? And are your screenshots actual images or just 'shops?

Probably not, although now with AI vibe coding, still no.. but with slightly less certainty.

I'm guessing it's the instrument cluster self-test. You can trigger it using a Mode 31 service request on Module 60, which is the instrument cluster module.

The problem is that the self-test follows a hardcoded sequence, so you can't just pick a specific colour and make it flash on command. If you tried using it as a shift light, it would run through the entire self-test every time you hit the shift point. In other word, completely pointless.

I've already made a shift light with both visual and audio cues. It beeps as you approach the shift point, then gives a solid tone when it's time to shift, so you don't even need to look at the shift-light.

Its actually quite easy to make a shiftlight setup with some LEDs, an ESP32, and a voltage regulator. Just tap CAN H/L and write a tid bit of code.

Granted, I cant say I wrote all of the code by hand, had some help from claude for more of the interfacing between a PC and BLE but a weekend of work and you can whip something up.

Biggest fumble was not having the HUD display a shift light. Even Ford did it back in 2015 with the GT350. Boggles my mind how BMW didnt think of this.

Now imagine if a coder did this. Atlest a flashing red box or symbol like the speed limit warning.

The reality is that the Supra has a lot of such small fumbles, including the shift light. It feels alot like the design team just missed that final check. Lets not forget, Toyota did put a "shift light" in the dash which is about as clever as the lack of a sync button on the climate control.

These annoying things, along with the patently fake vents, are what kept the car within reach of us here on the forum.. unlike the GR GT or the LFA which are designed for the much better off. 💁‍♂️

It's possible to get gauges and rpm/shift lights by going hamhackerman on your head unit

I'm not going to go into all the details, but the #1 requirement is SSH access on your HU, which lets you load custom programs. I have a raspberry pi connected over ENET running the bootmod3 agent and pulling data and a custom program on the HU draws it in the cluster and the HUD, including the RPM lights. This is the accumulation of sitting in the car with the engine on for days (outside), telling AI to make no mistakes. I also work in software and software accessories, so that helps. It's a little messy right now so it's not something I'm sharing at this point given the low but nonzero chance of bricking the HU.

Or just key on with a battery charger, but you can tell us how to do what you do, but you “aren’t going to go into details or share it.” Fuck off with this grandstanding bs. 😆

FWIW, they did submit a PR for the nbt-aad project for kombi & hud integration. I'd trust that they'll release it in time, when it's ready.
