Jumped on as soon as the manual was released, so 2023.Who's had one from around release?
No. She's a keeper but my partner bought an M2 which is a more refined and meatier car, offering similar (better) performance. Interior of the M2 does make the Supra feel quite dated but when it comes to street presence the Supra really can't be beat. Also, the exterior build quality seems better on the Supra, just as an aside.Anyone trade up as new updates happened?
Also, other than the manual transmission (and suspension tweaks) refresh in 2023, the car seems to be pretty much the same every year. A targa or HP increase would've changed that but Toyota opted for minor incremental tweaks which didn't really make a case for upgrading, beyond the aformentioned refresh.
The most worthwhile things I have done:Top 10 things you did to your supra and things you still hope will be released in the after market.
1. PPF + Ceramic coating: Looks perfect all the time and only needs a wash if driven in the rain.
2. Wind deflectors. Easy fix and absolutely necessary if you enjoy driving with the windows down.
3. Sto-n-sho plate mount: In my region avoiding drill holes is an ordeal and the stock plate mount is awful.
4. JB+ for 12 months which was a nice little kick.
5. Wheel alignment and shim kit: Tightened things up a some.
6. Bimmercode: Lots of little usability tweaks that improved the overall experience greatly.
7. AWE Touring exhaust: perfection and a must in Australia with our gimped stock exhaust tune.
8. A bit frivolous, but extending the exhaust pipes so that the tips extend beyond the ADRO diffuser.
9. 200CEL DP and MHD OTS Tune: Significant improvement in performance. No brainer today with the improved costs and unlock options.
10. ADRO V1 all around seems to complete the car, although it looks great without too.
11. Bimmertech MMI front camera is super handy to avoid destroying that ADRO lip.
12. Z4 low tone horn as the stock horn is embarrassing.
13. While not life changing, the Tadda Speaker mod does improves sound enough to make it worth while.
14. OHD LED Steering Wheel. While many hate the stock steering wheel, I quite like it so I had a very similar design made with built in shift lights - I coded out the stock shift light as it was absolutely useless.
After market wishlist:
Nothing really - I've spent enough money already.. although I am patiently waiting for the Divine Drive cold air intake to ship @DivineDrive.co
Yes, although it's frustrating that the MKV will forever be dogged online by MKIV spastics, Toyota fanboys and the Fast and Furious crowd. The car is essentially a cut price BMW and its price/performance really sets it apart. Interestingly, BMW folk don't seem to put it down, who arguably have a stronger case! While many think it's competing with the Z, I think that's really being very generous to the Z. Despite its price, the Supra is far closer in perforamce to an M2 or even the much more expensive Lotus Emira when you consider street presence. The Supra looks much more expensive than it is and can happily park next to cars three or four times its cost without looking out of place!Did the car live up to the hype by the end of its run?
On this, the car still garners a ridiculous amount of attention and ironically, it is pretty much all positive in the real world: Kids literally point and scream from the sidewalk or people ogle it at car meets. Without exaggeration, every time I drive the Supra I get some kind of positive interaction with Joe Public. While it's not the fastest car in the world, it looks fast and is plenty quick stock: With a 98RON tune the car is really giving the M2 and above a run for its money.
I've experienced no real issues on my MY23 apart from some wierd CELs and minor electrical gremlins which seem to just be #BMWThings. I presume these are all still part of the final edition experience. All the small stupid issues from day one seem to still be present too, like the fake vents (actually a non-issue); no synced climate control (What the actual fuck Toyota); Average sounding stereo system and (in most variants) wind buffetting - both of which are user fixable. What issues still exist in the final year?
I should probably mention that the manual transmission isn't the best I've experienced. Is it bad: No. Is it bad enough to warrant the auto: No again, but it's not top tier - and no, the CDV delete doesn't turn it into a Honda/Porsche box, despite popular belief.
And while I bemoaned the lack of a targa at the time, I'm glad it didn't happen as it would've forced me to upgrade and/or reduced the value of my current Supra. I do feel they will hold their value pretty well but because of the online bullshit, I think the car will go down in history as a misunderstood but very capable hero.
