Depends if you want single or dual exit, definitely get a catted DP (AA is pretty popular) and I would say Dual exit - AWE is most popular by far, Single Exit - RK Titanium Signature.

I am running RK Ti with OEM DP right now, and its MUCH louder outside than inside - you are spot on with the sound deadening being good af in this car lol.

That being said I am running a catless DP soon and going to love the noise in cabin when it's done.

Mr. Christmas tree has a great compilation video of Supra exhaust combos on YT definitely check it out.

even with my catless DP, it’s not really loud in the cabin to me, the car is well insulated for sure. But man 4K-6k rpm sounds so good with catless

Hey guys, just picked up a 6MT Supra and noticed the car's too quiet. They must've done a good job insulating it I guess.

From all the research I've done, it seems like sound quality and quantity are always a trade off - the louder setups are always raspy and usually sound like they have an exhaust leak. The refined ones are always quiet (AWE Resonated Touring is my favorite tone so far but I'm told it's barely louder than stock. The NON res has a little rasp).

My challenges:
1) I'm overseas and can't experiment with different exhaust setups due to shipping charges. Once my card is swiped I'm pregnant.

2) As she's my daily: I can't afford any CEL and won't risk it with cat replacements - no decent tuners around either. I don't want incompetent mechanics touching O2 sensors.

Any recommendations for a loud but refined sounding setup without messing with cats? Thanks for the help!

Sam
From my personal experience, I recommend starting with the AMS catted DP (and a new gasket), this will immediately transform your car and noticeably improve the exhaust db at startup, idle and while driving. You will notice increased turbo spool whistle, providing a very nice overall sound increase, all with no CE light. Likely a bit more power as well.

Most popular downpipe: Active Autowerke catted downpipe. We have the new AA catted downpipes and GESI cats.

Exhausts: AWE touring & HKS Hi-Power are very popular.

I have Active Autowerks and a MKS 2 Airintake, car sounds incredible and not loud

I watched a ton of videos and listened to a few exhausts that I could, and I ended out going with the AWE non-resonated catback. I do NOT have a downpipe. I selected this for a few reasons:
  • It had the best tone - not too raspy, not too deep
  • Almost no drone
  • No issues AT ALL with CELs - I've been through two NH state inspection cycles with no issues
  • I run autocross at a local site that has very strict sound rules - 86db at 75. This is JUST below that limit with low cloud cover, which was perfect. I will never blow sound at track or autocross event.
  • I needed enough noise so that I could still hear the car with my helmet on at track. I can confirm after 15+ track days and 3-4 autocross events, the sound level is perfect for what I was looking for.
  • I drive to and from the track (furthest was to Watkins Glen - 6.5 hours from my house) and I didn't have any problem with the sound in the car. I could hear the radio just fine, and turning off "Sport" reduced the sound enough when I needed it.
Everyone here will have their own opinions, so here is some info to help with your decision. I also recommend staying away from titanium unless you are making this a dedicated track car. Here are a few good links to compare.
AWE also has a good black friday deal on their exhausts. I'd wait a few more weeks for that if you go this route.

Good luck!

AWE touring resonated with a high-flow cat is not "barely louder than stock" so whoever was telling you that needs to get their ears checked.

Thanks for all the feedback guys - really appreciate all your inputs. The extra HP is a plus but not the priority here (I have a liter superbike and a V10 for that), the car just lacks drama and thats what I'm after. Not enough drama in my life haha (I test drove a GR Corolla before the Supra and man was it dramatic!)

So after listening to 237 youtube videos and shorts - I'm leaning towards one of the following:

1) AA Catted DP + AWE Resonated CB: best youTube tone, a little overpriced though worried may not be worth the hassle also volume wise.

2) Stock DP + AWE non resonated: how's the volume here vs stock? sensed a little rasp? (cant tell with OEM DP though most of the vids had aftermarket DPs)

3) Stock DP + AWE Track: some say it drones too much, best volume and tone combo for the price - sensed a little rasp?

Help me decide please, my credit cards itching

Go #1. If funds are an issue just install the DP first. You'll get a nice little pop in volume in doing that and it may impact whether you want to go resonated or not for the actual exhaust. You don't need to remove the exhaust to install the DP. Also who knows you might find yourself a black friday sale or FS thread here if the DP gives you patience to wait. I purchased my barely used AWE exhaust off the forum for around $1400.

Avoid the track, its too loud. I would say AA Downpipe + AWE resonated touring.

So after a lot of research and the million dollar discovery of track to touring conversion kit, i deciced to go nuts with AWE Track. Figured if it got too loud, I can always order the conversion kit.

Objective was to get loud and loud it is! Its essentially a resonated straight pipe. I love the raw screaming sound especially in the high revs. Pops and bangs like its the 4th of July (I feel like it spits a flame or two when hot as well but it could be in my head).

Even though most of the comments were to go with AA DP, I Figured if the OEM DP aint broken why fix it? It can always be a final resort if I still need to go even louder.

Thanks for all the inputs and for not ripping me a new one for creating another exhaust thread. Other forums aren't generally this forgiving :)

THIS forum isn’t usually that forgiving ?

Glad you’re happy with the set up, and I learned some things from this thread - so thanks!

Keen to hear your feedback on your choice. I went with a non-resonated touring with a stock downpipe and the sound is epic.. but deep down, I will always wonder if the track was my true calling. Well done for going all in!

I just ordered the AWE touring non-resonated because I plan to keep the stock downpipe. What do you think of the sound? Cold starts, idle, sound level, any drone?

Brother - #1 for sure. I would even lean NON RES, but the Res sounds awesome! here are some clips for you:

And here is the non-res, which I have on right now and prefer:

**The reason I would go AWE: Loud, big mid range, amazing tone with the B58 and no drone with the AA Catted DP. Its really an awesome setup. I also assure you, its plenty loud...but not in the car!
