Yesterday, I was driving home from a trip to BJs and my trunk was completely full. Listening to the same music I always listen to, I had to turn around and see if I was in a different car. The sound system was perfect; bass tight, and zero vibrations. So, this week I will be making the same adjustments here in the thread because the system is certainly capable with the right sound deadening enhancements!

Actually, It's more than sound deadening that needed to really make significant improvements to the OE system's bass quality...

The primary reason for the poor OE bass quality is that a narrow rear panel was placed directly over / in front of the OE exhaust ports as I explain in my original post...This design flaw alone contributes to roughly 90% of the poor OE bass response quality...Simply removing that obstruction by installing ports on the rear cover panel is where the greatest improvement to overall bass response and sound quality is achieved...

That said, the additional sound deadening does help quite a bit with enclosure and rear cargo area vibrations as well as reducing road noise....

Try taking off the panel labled "2" in tadda's post for a few days, you will shit your pants

No, I totally agree with you. The absence of the exhaust ports is certainly evident, and completely agree. I will be making this modification as well. Just stating that the bare minimum of getting rid of the rattles (by filling the trunk) noticably improved the quality.

In the mean time I suggest simply removing the narrow rear panel which alone will make a very noticeable improvement to bass quality...

Hi Folks,

Even after doing this mod, I'm still not happy with the sound. It's a real shame as I'm finally starting to enjoy this car and don't want to get rid of it.

Could I ask a favour of those of you that have done the mod? Could you try playing Justify My Love by Madonna please? It came up on my phone when I was in my Range Rover (it has a 825W Meridian high-end system in it) and had a really low baseline that sounded amazing. I then tried it in the Supra and none of the low frequency bass came out.

I'd just like to check there's nothing wrong with my system before I decide if I'm going to invest money in the car and take it to an audio specialist to sort out.

Thanks

Pav

Have you messed with the EQ yet?

I play house/future funk/electro house and it is amazing now and my bass thumps.

Hey Pav,

I know and love the song you’re talking about and IMHO it is un-listenable on this system. It can’t touch that low bass line and when you try to compensate with the EQ it just distorts.

The fixes in this thread help a lot but there is still room for improvement in this system

Hi,

Yup, tried loads of the different settings that people have posted on the forum. I listen to mainly hip-hop and r&B, which might be why I'm more disappointed in the stereo. it's mostly ok when I'm listening to pop or old 80's stuff.

I was thinking about getting one of those all-in-one sub/amp units, but I don't think they'll give me what I want. I think the only solution is to get a custom box built with a larger diameter subwoofer and a high-power single channel amp to drive it.

If you decide to throw more money at the sound system, I would suggest a measured (literally) approach. I think you need to either do it yourself or get a good shop to measure the frequency response inside the vehicle and approach the problem with data. Just throwing speakers at it may or may not give you what you want.

I would also suggest using higher quality music. I know many feel that streaming over bluetooth is just fine, but the better your source material, the better the sound.

I actually have her album and played the track and the bass is deep and not at all distorted...Not sure how you have your EQ setup ...Can you take a pic of your current EQ settings and post it...

How to Setup and Optimize Sound Quality using OE Equalizer

Also, and more importantly, If your playing your music through bluetooth or even listening through the radio on your phone that very well may be your problem as the sound quality is terrible through bluetooth...

I only listen to high quality mp3 recordings downloaded on to a thumb drive and played through the USB port...
