Isn't the recess just a thin cast ring around the plug? Hence my thoughts on grinding a section of the cast ring away creating a slot in it for the banjo and AN fitting.

Phil
It's been a very long time since I looked at the area, but I remember even if the ring was gone, you still needed to space the banjo for some reason. It was high enough that the factory plastic cap would still not go on, which was the same issue I had using a 90° AN hose end.

Edit - there is a plastic cover that hangs below the pan, that's why.

Nice product. I think my idea of using an additional outlet on the drain fitting via a Banjo fitting is still good for retaining the factory sensor as well as having a dipstick. You might even be able to use this hardware and adapt it to my idea for those that want both options.

Time to necro this thread, the oil dipstick has been made!

Bolt-in, removes factory sensor:

Oil Pan tap in, retain factory sensor (B48):

Nice. Great to see there are options if one is so inclined. Not having a dipstick was a miss from Toyota on this particular platform IMO. The monitoring/feedback from the ultrasonic oil sensor has its place but falls short when quickly trying to ascertain oil level.

Reading… hard
No not hard but there is a range that will still show as filled to the correct level so saying 1ml accuracy is not totally correct. I wasn't sure if this pertained to another aspect of the oil level accuracy and was looking for clarification.

You can LITERALLY read it in millimeter accuracy. So yes, correct.

Would actually take me longer to get out of the car, pop the hood, find a rag, measure a dip stick.

Each platform also has the measurement mapped to their respective oil pans, RWD, FWD, AWD, so there is reference as well. This is my M240i for example. So using the measured oil mm above, I am at 100% at approx 7.12L of oil.

The main reason I would have liked a form of dipstick access would be to do oil changes with an extractor.

Interesting! Do you happen to have this chart for the RWD version as well?
I dont have access to a xdf/bin file right now, otherwise I would have found it myself.

Edit: Did try with a bin from a Supra now, but it could not locate the BMWon_avl_CBSOilLvlRewd_T and BMWon_l_OilLvlSrvFrwd_T that should be right for a RWD vehicle.
Seems like that information is not pulled when making a *.bin with the MHD app?
