Did you get the hood done as well? And is the color difference noticeable? I want to get ppf on mine as well but was skeptical whether the xpel stealth would be noticeably different if I just did the front bumper and the hood.

Yes the full nose back to the doors. well worth it. I used Protective Film Solutions in Scottsdale airpark.

I cannot tell the difference at all. It looks amazing.
Did they clay bar your vehicle prior to application? Iā€™ve seen a lot of people saying that matte paint cannot be clay barred.

I've not personally tried clay on my car, but from what I've researched because the matte paint is not smooth like glossy paint, and because the clay works by effectively removing the rough lumps on the paint, it will just catch in the roughness of the matte paint and get stuck in all the tiny dips and clog it up. Worst case it could maybe also act like a polish almost and smooth out the roughness, damaging the finish.

Bought my Phantom on March 1st, trailered it home and right into its home it has sat. I back it out and blow the dust off every few weeks. Reading this thread definitely made me want to wrap the car in a giant bubble before I take it out whenever that is. dealer told me it was #49 in that color when I ordered it on Nov. 24 and the only one for this region (WA state)

Thatā€™s awesome! When I got mine, the project manager told me that phantom colored Supraā€™s are more rare than the launch editions. Not sure if thatā€™s true or not but they seem to be pretty difficult to find. Also, I got mine covered in Xpel Stealth and it is absolutely amazing!

The Sales director and the financing guy, both told me the same thing, that they are very very rare. But I don't trust much of what they say, they will say anything lol. But now I am starting to believe it.

Not sure if this related to this:

Anyway, I don't see Supras in Northern California, so far I've seen 3 in almost a year, none of them was Phantom.

Some photos of mine I took. Not driving it too often yet as Iā€™m waiting for my PPF install date.

A ceramic coating or ceramic coating system is the first thing Iā€™d do with matte paint. People need to note that prep for matte is different than for gloss paints as you cannot correct matte paint as it canā€™t be polished. They make matte waxes, but ceramics will out for perform.

Normal wax can ruin the finish and it has to be stripped off to get the finish back. Any bird droppings need to be cleaned off in short order. Ceramic coatings provide chemical resistance along with hydrophobic properties which is why they are typically highly recommended for matte finishes. Typical lifespan is two years to five years. Some longer, some shorter.

PPF is a double edged sword on matte paint. Satin and matte films are available, but you have to do a full wrap as they wonā€™t match in texture. The other issue is some who have matte paint donā€™t like the luster change as the films are made to go over gloss.

Matte paint cannot be touched up effectively. Any rock chips, scratches, bird dropping etched, etc the owner will have to live with or deal with what may be a highly subpar touch up compared to gloss paints. Typically to correct a panel with damage, it has to be resprayed.

I sincerely hope dealers are going over this with purchasers as typically BMW / Mercedes makes one jump through minor to major hoops for matte finish depending on the dealer.

Edit: I wrote this at first thinking you had a matte and not a clue as to what you bought. I was genuinely feeling for you as a DD with matte paint would be a nightmare for me.
My Supra is Gloss black but my RCF is Matte Nebula Gray and only the front clip is wrapped SunTek PPF and you cant see any difference from panel to panel. Ceramic coated in Modesta BC-04. The care isnt too bad just use the correct Matte Maintenance sprays and wash with a good product.

Does anyone know what the exact numbers or rough estimate of how many of this color there are in the US? I picked this up 3 days ago

Donā€™t hold me to this but I think my salesman said he was able to find 200-something 2020 & 2021 Phantoms, not sure nationwide or worldwide (produced so far?) If this is close to accurate I would venture to say this will be one of the rarer if not rarest color. It will be interesting to see if they continue to offer it in future years. Right now Iā€™m only finding 10 Phantoms nationwide on autotrader using the color as a keyword - 11 if you count a mislisted Turbulence grey.

Yea if what you said is true, even if itā€™s worldwide, it would be the rarest color cuz the a91 refraction blue has 500. Interesting, wish Toyota would tell us. 24 were built for japan only if you exclude the first one that went for 2.1 mil
