I read the last 20 or so pages, and this may be a dumb question, but it seems like there were initially problems with the jb4 on manual transmissions but that has mostly been ironed out. Are people with the manual trans and jb4 happy with the tuning and smoothness?

What you are seeing is a combo of preemptive knock control and the reduction tables working. The OEM timing is pretty aggressive and even more so when you start adding additional boost. Remember the car is calibrated to run in all different environments, who knows what kind of fuel quality, driving style, etc
Makes sense, that is what I figured. Yeah the difference between all the cars I see is crazy.... even with supposedly the same mods, fuel, IATs. There are some patterns, and its pretty rare I see something I haven't seen before.

I typically tune cars on JB4 to maintain similar cylinder fill% (ecu_psi) and timing as the stock map (given same IATs). Seems happiest there. Sometimes takes a lot of WGDC tweaking.

Interesting on the torque targeting. I know very little about the calibration tables outside what the JB4 interacts with. Sure is nice to have that adjustability.

They definitely take more work than an AT car to dial in, but I have seen enough at this point to know what gets them sorted out.

There are at least 5 members here who have had their MT tuned by me, maybe more. Also my own car which has been perfectly dialed in for 6+ months.

I figured out the trick in January. its the custom V24 "330e/MT" firmware in the first post. I worked with Terry on a few firmware versions until I figured out that MT cars need lower JB4 WGDC ranges than the standard firmware can reach (capped at WGDC 29 minimum). Also the cars are more sensitive to the FF curve... Still trying to figure out why that is. @razorlab hasn't found anything standing out between MT and AT calibration tables yet.

Awesome, thanks for confirming!

Noob here, but theoretically if I were to run this on a stock ECU, would it work? Would there even be a point to it/would I see significant power gains? Or is it just a waste of money?

  • Its still pretty new so there's not a lot of info on it but yes it works. Jesse said he's done some cars on it. I haven't.
  • It is for locked ecu cars and uses the JB4 port injection controller add on.
  • No idea if its a waste of money. I imagine that you can integrate the PI system with a flash tune if you ditch the JB4 later on.

Great news to share!

Many of you have heard about the "MT/330e V24 firmware" that I've recommended for a while. I worked with Terry at BMS for several months to identify the aspects of the V22/23 firmware that were incompatible with MT cars, and also found that it helped significantly with dozens of AT cars as well.

Essentially the only changes are :
  • "increased range of WGDC", previously capped at a 29 minimum. Now it is full range. 0-100.
  • JB4 WGDC control active during spool, previously not active.
This is especially helpful for catless/hi flow dp cars, and anyone else who struggles with throttle closures despite any WGDC tweaking. I also found it to be helpful with LCI M340s/M240s/etc.

Anyway, today it has been officially released at Alpha for V24 and is available for anyone to upgrade to in their app. Very happy to have been a part in testing, solving this issue, and bringing it to official release.

Thanks for your work!

Wondering if there would be any increase in power in going to a larger/hybrid turbo on JB4 such as the DAW Hypercore? Or would the limits of the JB4 be reached with the stock turbo?

Yes likely there are some gains to be had with the Hypercore, though I'm sure it will require a good bit of WGDC tweaking since the JB4 curve is for stock turbo.

I have done a car or two with a slightly bigger turbo and it held up pretty well. Definitely ran cooler IATs up in the rev range.

Oh nice! Which turbos were they? Do you know how much power over the stock turbo?

Sorry, checked my messages and couldn't find which model it was. He said it was "good for 600whp". It is not much bigger than stock, similar to the hypercore.

obviously not enough fueling with JB4 to hit 600whp, but I wouldn't be surprised if it could manage 500whp.
