I just bought a new 2022 3.0 Premium and one of the options on it was the Toyoguard Platinum which on top of more free oil changes includes a paint and interior protection. Does anyone know what the paint protection is, is it like a Ceramic coating? The water beads up and sheets off nicely and the finish very shiny and deep, so I wondered it if had been ceramic coated.

I was thinking of putting on a coat of Carpro Cquartz UK 3.0 ceramic coating on it too. Will this be okay over the factory protection, and/or can anyone recommend a good ceramic coating to use?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds like typical dealership snake oil to up charge. I’d never pay for a coating or anything of that sort.
Only way to know is to ask your dealer.

I would absolutely do ceramic or paint protection over it.

maybe someone knows more, but I’ve never heard of it.

It wasn't the BS business manager day of sale add on, it was an option from the factory, $699 as I recall. I would have never ordered a car with the option, but most of the Supra's I found coming into dealers had it on already.

I decline any and all upsell items at the dealer… nearly all dealer profit.

extended warranty? (doubling up on a existing warranty?!?)

rim & tire protection? (they just refinish your wheel)

glass protection? (you have insurance)

paint protection? (never wax your car again?!? - a joke) (dealer cost $20)

interior leather protection? (dealer cost $20)

door ding protection?

on and on…

most finance these items… not a good choice.

~ and some dealers add all of this crap before you arrive and automatically add it to the window sticker or price. that’s a dealer I would run from. shady business practices.

i’ve even seen some charge a ‘dealer delivery fee’ of $1,000 (another bs free).

Quick google shows it’s a regional thing. So it’s added before it shows to the dealer. Sucks that your region does that. I don’t see the value in it.

I’d still do ceramic or paint protection, or both. Whatever Teflon/ceramic spray they do isn’t going to last.

Welcome to the club, Congrats on the car!

While I agree to avoid any accessories and even if this one is useless, it wasn't invented by that dealership. Rather, this is a Toyota accessory:

Absolutely, but given the current market conditions and depending on where you live, most Toyotas already have this applied before you got there. Can you negotiate out of it? Probably in a normal market but it's almost impossible now at least in Florida where dealers just don't have a lot of stock and not a good enough reason to give in.

In the uk we have a similar up sell called SupaGuard, It took me ages to work out what it actually is, but it sounds like a silicone based spray sealant, Over here its 249 for like unlimited protection interior and exterior, I guess its not the worst deal in the world if you get it done 4 times in the ownership of the the car and factor in labour, but at the same time id rather do it myself.

Plus, maybe what, 300 more, and you can get a proper detail and ceramic coat (with a proper detailer only ceramic not something which is basically like Gtechnic c2 spray)

Toyoguard was already on my windshield sticker. Wondered what it was, also. And the $1000 destination charge.

I have no Toyoguard or Paint Care stickers on my windshield.

Did you have any Toyoguard or Paint Care windshield stickers?

Yes, there was a ToyoGuard sticker on the lower left corner of the windshield. As I tried to say in my original post, this was not a dealer up sell, I’ve bought and leased 20 or more new cars in my time and know the snake oil sales pitches and have never gone for them.

If you went onto Toyotas build site and built the car, it’s an option from the factory. Of course I’d never order it if I were ordering a new car, but it was already on from the factory. I was just trying to find an intelligent answer on what the original Toyota coating was.

As a dealer tech, I thought I'd have the answer but no one has heard of it here in Texas. Tried to checked internally, thinking it's a Toyota Motor North America accessory product, however, it is distributed by SET (Southeast Toyota) - separate from me in the Gulf States region, covering cars in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and North and South Carolina, and they have their own accessory products. (Weird, right?!)

Here's what I was able to find: (which you probably already know)

https://explore.setbuyatoyota.com/partsandservice/toyoguard/

Hope this helps a little!!
