Beautiful 2+2 coupe body, 228hp, RWD with mechanical LSD, 6-speed manual, well under 3,000lbs, better low end and midrange with a possible 6.3sec 0-60 and fairly decent fuel economy.

I’ve never cared much that it isn’t seriously fast. I just love the all around package for an everyday car and the last one was already fun to drive.

The availability of a Brembo brake package on the regular option sheet is all it needs now.

Says 235PS, 250nm 1270kg and 0-100kph in 6.3 (not 60mph). This 0-100 may be conservative claim like prev model, maybe with some high rpm start 6 flat or even below ;)
And on good n/a package I see here a potential to get at least 250hp, maybe 260 on top end parts, with 280nm at least. That would make it pretty fast. Add shorter gearing and oh boy, racecar ;)
I agree on brakes, coz those stock ones look funny-tiny as hell :D

My only concern is the reliability it this. In the last month 4 engines blew in Pl community, thats pretty insane failure rate. The oil problems of 2021 Supra compared to this seems like regular maintence lol.
If they upped the reliability its a winner and for sure more interesting package than 2.0 Supra.

235 PS (Metric Horsepower) is equivalent to 231.7 horsepower but I think Subaru's version of this engine has already been rated officially at 228 hp. PS and HP are not quite 1:1 but we're talking a very small conversion difference. Japan always lists their power figures in "PS" for the home market.

With extensive tuning it may indeed be possible to squeeze about 250hp from this engine give or take a couple of digits. As is though being about a whole second faster to 60mph with much better low end, midrange and a big reduction in that infamous torque dip it's already much better than before. But we'll have to see how it drives.

Actually given that Akio wanted last minute differentiating changes to the feel of this car compared to the Subaru it is probably likely that we may see a slightly shorter gear ratio and slightly different ECU tune in addition to whatever suspension changes the engineers want to make. Don't the new 2nd generation BRZ's already have a standard 4.30:1 final drive ratio? That's aggressive already. I wouldn't expect Toyota go all the way up to a super aggressive and short 4.56:1 even though some BRZ/FR-S/GT86 owners have done this. There is a 4.88:1 ratio on the aftermarket and that would be hilariously fun in a GR86 but that's even less likely as standard equipment.

Yes, the standard brakes have always been small on these cars. That's the #1 change I considered if I were to buy one. Once you've experienced a car with factory four-piston (or more) front calipers you never go back even if the car has a 200hp or 228hp non-turbo engine. Subaru made Brembos a regular package option. Toyota needs to do the same.

Were the engines that blew in your area all from 2015 and older GT86's and BRZ's? The 2012-early 2015's seem to have been the ones with the scary valve-train issues. I thought they fixed that in the more recent model years. Subaru and Toyota had better have resolved that issue by now for the 2nd gen.

Yes, I know, should be 232hp in EU.
That last minute changes is only a rumour, I personally dont belive 2much in it.
Yes, 4.3 in prev model. Mine has 4.67 (almost same in gear speeds like Supra, thats why I love Supra agressive gearing) and there are days I think I should have went for 4.88, because racecar ;) 4.3 will be the shortest they will install, I even suspect they may go back to 4.1 for better emissions.
Having tasted the good brakes on the Supra and 718 I cant stand stocks in 86 ;) Dunno if the Brembos will be offered on the lanuch, probably not unfortunately.

Yes, pre 2016 models, this car has weak crankshaft and bearing issues. If it took them few years to resolve this I have no faith this will not have 1st or 2nd year issues, even major.
Ppl track 2020 Supras a lot, tune 500hp and more and I dont see engines blowing left and right like in 86, I already seen 2 many and I'm scared of the new one honestly.

On the current gen Sport package did the suspension get lowered at all? Just don't like the wheel gap. Hope a sport Brembo package fixes that.

Not the biggest fan of the rear end but it's tolerable in white and absolutely terrible in red

I'm not crazy about the exterior. It doesn't "look" small like the previous gen. Kinda reminds me of a Tiburon. Inside looks nice though.
