anyone having issues with the tcu not obeying the kickdown disable? I even tried cycling the setting off and on with subsequent flashes, but the pedal button (and left paddle hold) still kicks down.

Welcome to the club! Make sure and respect the 50 mile / 80km break in, the trans will act funny and that's fine, especially your first few KM of driving. Stage 2 / 3 should be fine for your power. My sport settings were designed to be a bit more mild instead of holding RPMs, usually if I'm driving actually sporty I'm in manual mode.
That is the biggest difference I noticed with XHP on track. All the "soft and lazy" shifts like that went away. I think it's part of the stability programming.
A younger, smarter, Supra buddy told me he’s buying one of these on Black Friday sale and plans on running it in stage 2. Curious on your guys opinions, given your experience with the product and tracking.

1) Would I have to make adjustments to it once installed? Or will it improve normal & sport mode w/out having to go into the settings, make adjustments? Set it and forget it.
2) And do either of you think if I run this on stage 2 -in sport mode - on track - not prematurely burn up the trans or other associated parts?

Or if anyone else has done this - set it and forget it - with success, would love to hear it. Thanks!!

I've used the OTS Stage 3 for two seasons and 43 track events. Zero issues.

1) No, stage 1 / 2/ 3 are already great
2) If you are past stock power (even just a basic DP, exhaust, intake, setup can be past stock power by a good margin based on the setup), stage 2 will increase clamping pressure for the clutches which objectively will reduce clutch slip and therefore extend the life. However, I'm still no engineer in this area and I'm a sample size of ~3. Truly read the XHP wiki, every setting has explanations on what it does, and the ones that can HURT your trans are called out: https://rbttuning.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/RBTTUNING/pages/12058758/8-Speed+ZF+-+Custom+Options

3) Yea when I first got XHP I just did stage 2 and it was fine. I've tweaked more daily driving settings in my stage 2 + custom settings, but when I track I run stage 2 stock. I had a time where the car wasn't doing it's fastest possible upshifts on a downhill section when I was running stage 0 (stock map) at track

Appreciate both of your advice!! And my buddy that mentioned it in the 1st place. So, I bought it. Can’t wait to try it out when I get the car back from its track inspection.

Thx man. I have no doubts it’s going to be awesome ?? I leave tomorrow, will pickup the car today. Was going to wait & do it after this weekend. Unless you think it’s no big deal to do the flash (stage 2) one day before tracking…. Thought I read or heard somewhere to let the flash run a few days and ‘settle’?!?

Just flash and take it on track. It’s not going to reset the adaptations.

XHP recommends 50 miles of driving, I recommend at least 5. I would not do your first "miles" on track.

Disagree, my trans acted very weird the first 5 miles of driving, I'm pretty sure that it resets the adaptations the first XHP flash you do, subsequent flashes do not have any issues though.

Done it multiple times myself with no issues. I’ve even reset adaptations and then sent it on track with 0 problems.

Well then we're both a sample size of one with opposite experiences. IMO no reason to risk hurting the trans by putting your first miles on track, it's not like brake pads where the pad and the rotor itself are laughable consumables.

https://rbttuning.atlassian.net/wik...ng-in period?,software as quickly as possible.

Do I need a running-in period?
We recommend a running-in period of about 50-75 miles without wide open throttle, with different speeds, load scenarios and gearshifts, to allow the transmission to adapt to the new software as quickly as possible.

This running-in phase is only recommended after the first xHP flash and is not required for subsequent flashes, such as map changes or changing flash settings, etc.

This matches my experience, the first flash the trans was basically clueless, its like it was throwing at a dartboard to determine which gear to shift to, I think at one point it like did a 2-4 upshift, then a 5-1 downshift, it was just LOST during the first 2 miles of driving. And they specifically call out not doing WOT at first.

AFter that first flash, I've gone between stage 0, 1, 2, 3, with and without custom settings and I never notice any trans weirdness, and I notice a LOT.

Ah, you are talking about auto. That makes way more sense. I never drive mine in auto.

I drive in manual a majority of the time, even those manual shifts were weird. But XHP says to drive at a variety of speeds, in normal and sport mode, at a variety of throttle positions, variety of gears, etc. Seems like the first TCU flash will reset it to a 0 mile / factory condition, or even pre-factory-break-in based on their wording and my experience.
