I agree with this. Sport mode gets you that extra kick by staying on the gears longer and at higher revs. But why add stress to the engine if you can enjoy a smoother run with all eight gears on the more docile normal driving mode?All gears are available in Sport Mode, and saying different is 100% mistaken. Sport mode simply holds on to lower gears longer to keep the rpm and responsiveness up - ready for romping.
Sport mode is, IMO, pretty much pointless UNLESS you’re romping AND need that extra tiny bit of performance. The programming and tranny are so damn awesome that there’s very little delay in bringing all of the ponies to bear when the go pedal hits the floor. Ditto the suspension. It’s so good that there’s very rarely a need for that last few percent of handling.
Personally and given the above, I am in Normal Mode 99.99% of the time as there’s no objective (performance-based) need to beat up the car with extra wear and tear. Subjective (ego/jollies-based) needs are a different thing though, and to each his own there.
