I’m tempted to do it myself as I’m
certain the dealer cares less about my Supra than I do.

Plus here’s an interesting question. Since the entire Toyota fleet has one car with a BMW frame, what are the chances that their lifts are equipped with the rectangular Jack Pads that should be used with all BMWs.

For those who did their own oil changes, how the hell did you get under the car? I guess the obvious answer is ramps, but with the low clearance I’m not sure they’ll work. Also, I’ve hear that using ramps will prevent all the oil from draining (since the drain plug placement assumes the car is level and on a lift for the oil change).

You bring up some valid points. I bet some dealerships don’t have the right rectangular adapters for the lift points.

Also, the drain plug isn’t completely at the back of the pan. There is a section that could pool a small amount of oil based on the angle of the car.

There are a couple of methods for oil changes, ramps, hydraulic jack, and jack stands. It really depends on your budget and what tools you have in the garage.

Interesting. So I did the oil change. The car is too low for even low slope ramps. So I just drove it up onto two 2x6s, which worked great! And by the way, I agree that a little oil must have been left in the pan as I refilled with only 6 liters and it showed full.

Anyway, I used the rip-off Toyota Supra oil because I was worried about the spec for warranty reasons. I prefer 5w30 by there isn’t a 5w30 that meets the ACEA C5 spec.

Thoughts?

If you’re not tracking your car, tuned or have developed excessive oil consumption issues I wouldn’t worry about running the GR oil.

Some people have had good luck with it. As for me, Im tuned and don’t bother with the ACEA 5 ratings. Hell I even told the Sales Manager I was modding it and not bother with his extended warranty pitch.

I usually just change my own oil. I've heard horror stories of Toyota dealerships putting the wrong 0w20 oil in the Supra.
This almost happened to me a few weeks ago. I asked about what kind of oil, and they said they were going to use the bulk 0w20 they had in stock! I said, that's the wrong kind of oil, and told them the part number for the oil. Beware of the dealership oil.

Funny experience, when I went for a oil change today. Pulled up to the express service, "we can't do that, go to service" went to service. Service tech saw me out the window and would not come out. Finally someone came out "take that over to express". Finally after some back and forth, "come back later we'll make you an appointment, takes two hours". Called BMW "you want to bring a Toyota here, you called BMW not Toyota" I explained that it had BMW motor in it. "I can't help you". Do any of the people working in the dealerships know anything about car? Finally BMW said they would change the oil but would have to call Toyota first to find out the details about the engine. Went to another Toyota dealership. "no problem we will work you in and change the oil".
Similar experience i had back in 2019 when I first brought the car for an oil change...original dealership didnt know what to do...bmw dealership said we dont know what to do with a toyota...and had to go to another dealership a borough over

What is the difference between the GR 0w20 oil and the “bulk” 0w20 oil? thanks

build some ramps out of wood and do it at home....its an easy oil change for any oil change is concerned....filter is on top and "supra" easy to access.

I’m about to do my own oil change this month. Last time I brought it in they took an entire day to finish and that’s just absurd.

also switching to liquimoly 5w40 since my area is easily 90-110F over summer. Been running that on my my VWs and Audis for almost 20 years.

I did a search on “Bob is the oil guy” forum and I could not find anything that addresses this specific question. If you have any supporting info I would be curious to see it. Thanks

My first attempt was a failure. I had to schedule an appointment 3 weeks out. Went in and they said sorry we don’t have the oil. It’ll be at least 2 weeks before it’s in. Thanks for the heads up. So needless to say, back to doing my own changes.
