Agreed, they really screwed up the front end design On the 400z.
Give it a chance until you see it in person. I thought the same about the simple rectangular grill until I saw it in person. It does look better in person. The grill has a pattern or texture and that makes it more interesting.

So I just briefly checked out the NissanZ sister forum... my god are they obsessed with the Supra. Basically every thread i've checked, theres someone trying to compare it to a Supra or throwing a jab at the Supra.

Exactly! They talk about the Supra non stop. About how horrible it is because itā€™s not a manual and has fake vents.. like do they not know their gtr (actually good version of their cars) only comes paddles with fake vents? LOL

The Z is a prettier carā€¦.time will tell if the mechanicals will hold up. If its a CD009, we at least know it will hold alot of power and torque. The engine and diff has yet to be put to the test, even though the itā€™s the same setup as a Q Redā€¦.they may do something slightly different for the Z. The Supra has a much nicer interior.

Most of the pics of the Z that are floating around the internet are of the Proto. Its possible the production car may have a less extreme front end.

Not sure I necessarily agree with that. It could look good, and has a throwback look. But I think the Supra definitely beats it in the pretty department. (especially the 3/4th angle)

Curious to see the full reveal on Aug.17. Hoping the 6spd sells really well to give Toyota some pressure to build one in the future.

Initially I did not like the front rectangular grill in pictures. The car at the Chicago Show had the finished grill from what I was told. It's black and low so you don't really notice the subtle details in pictures. The front grill looks a lot better in person. What looked odd to me was the Fairlady badge on the rear. That badge placement and font looked like a tramp stamp on someone's ass. I would remove that badge.

These are pics I took from the show.

personally about the ONLY good looking part on the Nissan (from outside) is the rear, everything else is so "meh"

Supra looks SO much better in every way!

I owned a GTR back on 2009. Honestly I don't remember if the vents were functional or not? I do remember the transmission. I did not like it at all. It was pretty unrefined. It made lots of mechanical noises. It was a good car but not my cup of tea. I sold the GTR for a 911 C4S with PDK. The PDK is in my opinion a much better dual clutch in terms of smoothness, noise, refinement, drivability. Torque converter transmissions have come a long way since the dual clutch in my old GTR. The Supra's ZF is a torque converter but it drives better than the transmission I had in the GTR.

The gtr got a major upgrade after 2017. Much better trans and lots of fake vents. You can find fake vents on basically any car nowadays. Audi r8, gtr, dodge demon, even the non performance new style cars like the updated grand Cherokee. Doesnā€™t make any of those cars ā€œuncoolā€

What fake vents are you referring to on the GtR? Just curious as far as I know I don't think there is any.

Back to your point, there is no avoiding the comparison of the Supra to the New Z because they are very comparable on paper and both are moder rwd that come from the Japanese manufacturer. There is just as much talk about the Z on this forum so nothing new there. But you got to admit, with the new Z coming with a manual, it is going to draw some of the shoppers that may otherwise buy a Supra.

That Fairlady badge wonā€™t be on the production version. They only call it the Fairlady in Japan

rear end sides and parts of the grill blocked off on the gtr. Yes there surely will be a bunch of people that will flock to the manual, wanting to loose speed and technology for god knows why
