How to Improve OE Sub Bass Quality and Eliminate Vibrations

The fine folks at Modified Custom and Collision finished up some custom subwoofer boxes for me on Friday. The majority of the boxes are fiberglass with MDF faces. They installed two Rockford Fosgate P3SD4-8 subwoofers and used their 500W amp to power it all. Looks incredible, finished in factory carpeting with red speaker mesh. Sounds awesome! Yessir, enclosures are fiberglass. A local tuning shop did the work for me, I’m not sure where they got the carpeting. I know that most Home Depot’s/Lowe’s sell automotive carpeting in various shades and colors. That’s where I’d look.

I’ve seen a few people install amps there as well and most say they have no issues w seat hitting it. I’m gonna mount mine behind the oem 8s at an angle

They installed the amp low enough that it really doesn’t come into contact with the seat at all. Even fully reclined, the seat hits the Cusco brace long before it could touch the amp.

The subwoofers they installed demand a minimum air space of 0.25 cubic feet for a sealed box and 0.75 cubic feet for a ported box. I don’t know how much air each box actually encloses, but there is more than enough volume in those cubbies to satisfy either number.

For the inevitable “what did this cost” question, just under $2k all inclusive. I got the speakers and amp from crutchfield. I recommend going with their “open-box” or “scratch-and-dent” sales. I got both of these subwoofers for nearly half off because they had tiny scratches on the back sides, which you can’t see anyway.

Also, for those who prefer to have an adjustable bass knob (rather than just using the equalizer), mine is mounted above the wireless charging tray in that little cubby. Used double sided 3M tape, no drilling required.

How hard are those enclosures to remove if you had to access the fuse panel or battery?

I’ve seen people use strong Velcro for them. But most incorporate a bolt or 2 in the enclosure. So u gotta remove the sub to get the box out.
