It's nice to see new people on the forums come on here and try and act like they know what the hell they are talking about. Here you are buddy, a bing search for you (plug in the numbers):

https://www.dollartimes.com/inflation/inflation.php?amount=39000&year=1994

Here is a window sticker off of a 1994 Non-turbo Automatic Supra....$39K....in 1994:

Used_1994_Toyota_Supra.jpg

Translate that to today's money, that's $66k. FOR A NON-TURBO AUTOMATIC!!! Now, the Turbo 6spd's sold in the mid $40k's....fully loaded to the brim, they were at ~$46k....in 1994. Translate that to today's money, that's $77k....not including the other dealer markups and addon's. How is that not near or just at $80k today? Suck it!

As for the GTR not selling....don't look at one year, look at the fact that the car has been in production since 2008! If you will notice, they have been selling quite well considering the car is 10years old now, with a year or two having some dips. Suck it twice!

http://carsalesbase.com/us-car-sales-data/nissan/nissan-gt-r/

You proved my point buddy, a good majority of buyers ARE paying top dollar for MKIV's today.....considering how many are actually left to buy on the used market. "Majority" in MKIV Supra sales terms is less than ~20 buyers a year because of actual inventory available. Not because people don't have money, it's because there aren't enough used MKIV TT Supra 6spd's out there. Suck it three time!

Don't be upset that your beloved Supra is going to be failure like it's little brother the FR-S. It's survival of the fittest, and Godzilla wins EVERYTIME!
On a different note, when the 2008 GTR came out with no manual what was the feedback/response back then?

Good amount of people was cried because of high price/no manual option. Now a GTR base is even more than when it came out in 09. Then they slowly stopped caring as much and just took the car as it came. Which I feel may be the case for the Supra. If it's tunable, then it really doesnt matter what power it comes with, since a majority of us will not be keeping it stock anyway.

That's a rather puerile response. Why are you even here?

Anyway, @A70TTR with all this talk about power, weight and price (not sure if I missed it in my lurking), is the retractable wing still a thing? haven't see any pics of prototypes with. Or is it that the camo accommodates for the wing deployed?

It didn’t matter bc the GTR made up for it with 500hp+ out of the box. The MKV Supra is underpowered, overweight, overpriced, and no manual. This is a recipe for disaster....it’s dead before it’s even alive. The GTR’s pricetag, no manual, and AWD was ignored by buyers the moment the car was labeled a “Veyron Killer.”

I personally could care less about a manual, and im sure others do too....but give the MKV some balls. The new Vettes are gonna shit on this car from a base standpoint. For those who keep saying, “its a Cayman competitor.....????....how many of us young people actually buy or are in the market for a fucken Cayman??? Those are toys for old farts who want a Porsche but can’t afford a true 911. The Supra name has evolved into a new category of buyers, those who have the means financially and want a Japanese tuner car.....it’s why we are all on this damn forum! Toyota, deliver to those buyers!

Ya, and to be honest, I'm not sure why people keep quoting the price of the previous Supra as a reason to justify its cost. The Supra was discontinued because of a lack of sales, was it not? Why put it in the same price bracket? Especially today?

Back in the 90s it was ground breaking...but these days, what are they offering thats new or worth the price tag? Its co-developed with BMW...I just don't understand why a car that's being co-developed is being sold at such a premium. I guess I'm an idiot for assuming the reduced development cost would some how reward the buyer instead of the manufacturer.

Exactly! Forget it competing with the $100k GTR, how about a $50k Corvette? Or $50k Shelby GT? Or how about a $60k Hellcat? All of which will walk all over the new Supra and still have room to hop-up.

What I just want to know, from a real Toyota executive or representative is, what was the purpose of reviving the Supra? Forget the joint venture with BMW for a rear wheel drive sports car, but why revive the Supra name only to offer an inferior product to it’s predecessor?

Regarding all of this speculation, we should still take it all with a grain of salt. With that being said though, Toyota if you're out there please listen. I know this is a different day in age and Toyota needs to be able to appeal to a wider market, but many people from a variety of age groups still want a light-weight, low frills car. While it may be a race now to see who can pack the most technology into their product to appeal to a younger age group, many of us in this young group could care less about the heavy tech. If I wanted a luxury/performance car, I wouldn't be looking at the Supra, I would be looking elsewhere. I still have high hopes for the Supra and can't wait to see what we have in store.

Revival of Supra because of
1. Halo Car
2. RWD platform
3. Ladder up from FRS/BRZ
4. Money

What puzzles me is that it makes no sense to do a joint venture with BMW.
BMW comes NO WHERE NEAR toyota in sales, volume, and most importantly, Research and Development.
Toyota brought in over $250 BILLION dollars last year alone. That is 3x what BMW does and 2.5x what Volkswagen does.
You are talking about a company who is the largest auto-manufacturer in world and outsourcing their Halo car to BMW.
They have history in Formula 1, NASCAR, Rallies, Super GT Endurance, Grand Prix and more. They have the history to prove that they are more than capable to R&D their own engine platform and carry it to production. This project to me just seems like Toyota is playing it "safe" or parts bin produce the car and say "Hey, look guys, I did it. Buy it or I will kill the legend once more."

The concept came out in 2014 but development of the vehicle is still in the making till this very day.

I can almost guarantee you we will see the 3.5L V6 (Non-TT or TT) +/- Hybrid will make it into this platform as the highest trim.

If not, you'll see a Twin Turbo FZ swap from me.

Not to call anyone out, but so many people on this forum have said they would rather get xzy. And yet they keep coming back.

I think he said no retractable wing due to weight and cost. :(

Not me....I’ve always been edging towards a GTR. I was always holding off hoping Toyota would shock the world by announcing a home-grown powerplant in the MKV. However, with recent news....it’s solidified my fears....a way overpriced GT86. I mean, what’s the difference in performance of a 2700lb car with 205hp (GT86), and a 3300lb car with 350hp (MKV)? Is there really much of an edge there?

Again....in the states. Everywhere else in the world, it competed with GTR. Again, the MKIV Supra exists as a direct response to Nissans GTR program. Technically, we should all thank Nissan, lol.
