This is everything I'd hoped we would get in a GR Corolla including the dual Torsen LSD option making it as a worldwide option and the vented aluminum hood (albeit limited and only for one model year), front and rear multi-piston brakes and even some body reinforcement over the standard Corolla.

And 300hp from the factory from a little engine that has been proven to be capable of 500whp already!

I need an automatic and I'll trade mine for it
You should be in luck. An 8-speed automatic is supposedly in development for the GR Yaris. If so that means it'll undoubtedly become an option on later model year GR Corollas.

One thing I don’t like. Toyota pick one, dual exhaust or centre exit. Not both

From what was being hinted at in the video reveal event when speaking with the chief engineer, the third exhaust, despite being a visual thing, may also have something to do with reducing back-pressure in order to raise boost pressure and horsepower for production...

https://vimeo.com/event/1928953

^^ My guess it will have a dual mode exhaust with center being loud mode.
^^ ...and maybe this too although it might have just been a cheeky joke (or not a cheeky joke) from the presenter in the plaid shirt.

Edit:

The technical role of the center exit exhaust is addressed further in this video with the same presenter guy. He mentions again that it has to do with gaining a straighter exit path for the exhaust for less backpressure and more boost.

Excellent replacement for the dead STI. Circuit Edition will probably be priced similarly around $40k

I already have one of these, it's called a GTI (minus the AWD) :) This is certainly an exciting release though with EV's seemingly taking up all of the press for new vehicle launches.

I am extremely excited for this I am still a little confused why they did the circuit edition and they show it but it won’t be available until 2023 as a special one year run I figured that would be a launch edition car so that kind of threw me off and I wish that they offered that spoiler not in carbon on the core model because that spoiler looks fantastic so hopefully in aftermarket company will be able to make like a replica of it I think it changes the whole rear end of the car

The good news is that the GR Corolla "Core" model has all the most important options including the dual Torsen LSDs.

From the video presentation it looks like sourcing OEM or aftermarket parts from the "Circuit" model will be possible (front and rear bumpers, aluminum or aftermarket CF hood with vents, different spoiler).

It should be possible to buy a "Core" GR Corolla with the dual LSD option and then change a few external cosmetic parts to convert it into a "Circuit" edition yourself.

You Toyota fanatics are something... and hats off to Toyota for releasing a Hot Hatch in a dying ICE world.

BUT, as one of the Supra owners that came from the BMW/euro side; I would rather buy a used AMG a45 if I wanted a hot hatch (which i don't)

I really don't get where people will think this is better as a track car than a Supra?

PS, what are they saying this will weigh?

I believe the spec stated it’s estimated to weigh in at 3249 lbs.

AMG A45 isn't available in the US. I also doubt they ever came with a manual.

For us in the US right now its really WRX, Golf R, and now this for an AWD manual *fun* car, remove the WRX if we want hatch.

That segment is very limited here and have wanted a Golf R for YEARS (since the 2004 R32) but this is making me think twice for my next DD.

Yeah, that's my only issue with the car.. it would be perfectly fine with the Dual exhaust, the USB Type C in the middle isn't needed at all lol

We're about to see a lot of used GR Supra go up for sale lol
I don’t know… To me a 300hp 3-cylinder AWD 5 seater hatchback that shares a lot of its components with an entry-level (albeit a great entry-level) car is hard to compare to a ~400hp inline-6 RWD 2 seater coupe with a BMW-level interior.

Don’t get me wrong. I went from zero interest in the GR Corolla to now very curious about it, but I would find it hard to believe a lot of owners will be trading their Supras in on a Corolla.

I think what’s more likely is that we’re going to see a lot of GR Corollas next to Supras in driveways/garages.

Cool car that we probably never thought we’d see in the States. Too boy racer for me at my age but the sales will be through the roof. A nice option for the Civic Type R buyers.
