I think there was some drama at that event. One of the guys had posted something a long these lines "fu*king MK4 owners think that only their opinions matter". I was going to share it here, but when I went back to look for it I can't find it anymore. I'm assuming it was quickly removed.
I don't think I'll ever truly understand the Supra family feud. It seems like A80 and A70 owners are always at each others throats. However, both seem to be fine with the A40/A60. I remember when I first joined Supraforums back in the days and there was always smack talking. Some of my favorite lines:

MK4 owner: Why don't you get a real Supra?
MK3 owner: Why would I want to pay that much for a jelly beans on wheels.

Tada doesn't care for many of the A80 owners he spoke with in the US and possibly elsewhere (not going to waste time delving into in detail), and another individual mentioned in this thread made a comment that he started removing several of them from his social media for negative comments made on the A90. They can be a very toxic bunch and are typically very arrogant.

I've had this same experience 90% of the time, but it has seemingly gotten a bit better over time.

Exceptions are usually folks that have owned other Supras or that realize the others have their own merit.

This sounds childish on everyoneā€™s end. The A80 put the Supra on the map so naturally people are going to expect an evolution of the the A80 but thatā€™s not what we are getting. We are getting an evolution of the Z4 from what we can tell so far. Iā€™ll keep an open mind and hope the end results will be to my liking but it will never feel like a true Supra. I have no doubt it will be a looker and a performer but it will always be the adopted family member, no blood relation.

It's a bit different in Australia... there used to be a time where A80 owners would frown upon the older generations... but these days, A80 owners

a) are 18 year olds who like stance, vaping and hardparking and don't even realise there is 3 other generators
b) are genuine enthusiasts and appreciate the rarity of the older gens

Whereas the A70 crew have never forgotten and still hate everything to do with the A80, and are generally pond life miscreants. There's a few good ones out there but many, sadly, are knobs.

A60 owners are just plain odd. Best avoided.

Have a huge soft spot for the A70. Always wanted to own one before I got an A80, but I kinda lucked into the 80 before I ever got a chance to buy a mk3.

Oh yeah, the number one source of hatred for the A90 seems to be coming from Supraforums, and that place is dominated with A80 owners. Not to mention tons of them bash on Tada's prior project, the 86. Maybe more of them will be accepting once the car is unveiled and they can actually get behind the wheel of one.

I think this is the view of many Supra owners in general. Loosely in Latin, "Supra" means above or beyond. So they are expecting this car to go beyond the old model in every way, and hopefully Toyota's decision to use the Supra nameplate was not purely just for a marketing attempt.

Anyways, my styling pick goes like this:

A90
A80
A70
A60 = A40

A90 / A70 / A80 / A60 / A40

IĀ“ll probably have to put my flame suit on here, but IĀ“m not really a hardcore fan of any of the previous Supras.

A90 is interesting to me because they have focused on handling as their n.1 priority on development. It will be competitive or outhandle Porsche mid engine cars, and will absolutely destroy any previous Supra on a racetrack.
At the same time, they have also focused on power potential and aftermarket support: iron block, beefy drivetrain, space for a big single turbo speak to this commitment.
All in a good looking package, with a reasonable cost/performance ratio.

IĀ“ll gladly buy one. And I think Toyota will get a lot of new customers with this car.

A80 owners seem to be wishing the A90 to fail because they believe that will somehow raise their cars value. ThatĀ“s not only childish and simplistic, but also not understanding how the sports car market works: an awesome A90 is the best bet to increase the value of the whole Supra nameplate. Each generation differences will be valued in their own light. See old school 911: with each new design old gen owners scream "sacrilege!", "not a real Porsche any more", "mine is better because of X". And somehow, new gens sell a lot, perform great, and they help to grow the legend of the nameplate and the marque.
