I thought the press release said both companies are co-developing a brand new platform.

The video was posted by a Toyota/Lexus employee during a racing event. It was suppose to stay on a certain forum. But in this day and age it made its way all over the internet. When word broke out about the video, the Toyota/Lexus employee was force to remove it in fear of losing his job.

Ah. So the employee himself posted the video?

Y'all didn't really miss much, IMO.

The driver who supposedly "divulged" the information only really repeated the rumors that were around at the time, and frankly sounded like he was trying to be some sort of cool-guy. I could be totally wrong, but that's how it came across. He was not some sort of Toyota test driver; he was a driver at a RC-F press-type day and appeared to be one of probably a dozen or so drivers giving rides around the track. I sincerely doubt he had any inside line on Toyota's plans for this car.

Could be wrong, but IMO, if the test driver wasn't creditable, than I don't think Toyota would have reacted as fast and swiftly as they did with a counter statement.

so the latest rumors are saying it will be a modular platform. and maybe at least 4 sports cars will be built. 2 for Toyota and 2 for BMW. so if the rumors are true. than maybe we have been looking at it the wrong way the whole time?

the Z1 or Z2 is rumored to built on a FWD mini platform. so i dont think this will be shared with the sub 86 car, because Tada san has said all 3 Toyota sports cars will be RWD.

a Z3/Z4 for BMW and maybe a second gen 86/FRS for Toyota.

than a Z5 or Z7 for BMW and of course a new Supra for Toyota.

^ this could be a possibility. Or Toyota will just use Z5/Z7 platform to build the FT-1 and the Lexus LF-LC. Which I thought would share platforms with each other anyway seeing how similar both cars are.

Interesting. I had thought that it'd be stupid not to use the platform for more than one model so now this makes more sense.

I wonder if its so modular that it could be made small enough to underpin the sub-86 car (instead of being used for a second gen FRS).

Sub86? I would love a mid-ship, and I'm not going to buy one. LOL

I recall reading on BimmerPost or BimmerFeast awhile back something like this:

Z1: Coupe
Z2: Roadster

Z3: Coupe
Z4: Roadster

Z5: Coupe
Z6: Roadster

And yes, there has been rumors saying the new platform will also used for a new Z3/Z4 and 86/FR-S for awhile now.

Looks like BMW plans to use the platform for a whole bunch of cars then, including a smaller MINI. Hope Toyota makes the best use of the platform too and makes much more than just the Supra with it.

I thought Toyota want to move Scion up market. This new platform should be able to help Toyota to do so.

I can't imagine a Scion with a CF platform. Might be too costly?? Unless they really do move the whole brand upmarket I guess.

But Toyota sends mixed signals with Scion. One moment it's supposed to be the youth oriented 'experimental brand', the next it's supposed to move upmarket.

Thought they turned a corner and things were looking up when the RWD FR-S came along. Then they introduce an 'all new' car like the Scion iM which is nothing but a FWD Auris with a different body.:bonk:
